Research Specialist at CLEAR Global

Originally founded in 1993 in France (as Traducteurs sans Frontières), CLEAR Global translates millions of words of life-saving and life-changing information a year. 

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Research Specialist

Location: Abuja
Contract length: 6 months, with the possibility of extension
Hours: Full time
Reporting to: Research Coordinator

The Role

  • The Research Specialist responsible for leading on the AAP assessments, as well as coordinating the implementation of deep dives and qualitative surveys  for the Third Party Monitoring (TPM) project in Nigeria, funded by FCDO. They are also responsible for the full research cycle of the assessments.
  • They will be asked to prepare the first assessment in collaboration with the Research Managerand then lead on subsequent assessments.
  • The Specialist will serve as team lead, and monitor work done by research assistants and FACT Foundation (team leader, data officer, operation manager). 

Responsibilities
Research concept and design for AAP assessments:

  • Together with the Research Manager and other TPM staff, develop the conceptual framework for the AAP assessments, based on IP’s AAP indicators, AAP profiles of each IP and overall AAP framework 
  • Develop research ToRs for the assessments, including research design (sampling, locations and collaborate with consortium partners on aligning activities
  • Develop research tools - KII/FGD guides and other relevant tools for the assessment in line with CLEAR Global’s and FCDO ethical research standards, submit to research for lead for review and approval 
  • Liaise with FCDO implementing partners and subcontractors to plan and deliver assessment.

Research set-up:

  • Manage research set-up for the AAP assessments, including logistics, recruitment of field teams and liaison with consortium partners 
  • Train field staff on AAP assessment tools and conduct pilot test

Research delivery:

  • Oversee data collection and conduct FGDs and KIIs
  • Coordinate data collection, data management, and data processing ensuring that all data is handled confidentially and along data protection guidelines. for validation
  • Prepare analysis matrix in Dedoose for qualitative data, including sharing analysis with IMPACT for validation
  • Together with the Research Managerwrite research reports of each assessment, including validation by IMPACT
  • Manage research staff, data collectors, and consultants as needed. 
  • Manage day to day relations with FACT Foundation and supervise work conducted by FACT team leaders, data officers. 

Reporting:

  • Provide regular internal updates on research advances and preliminary results
  • Produce research reports for review and validation by the Research Lead
  • Produce and present findings in presentation format to consortium partners, IPs and FCDOs

Support to other research activities under the TPM where necessary:

  • This can include deep-dive studies, CFM sessions, learning sessions, CEAL Liaison
  • Please note that these responsibilities may change over time. The role will evolve along with the overall project and as activities develop.

Qualifications

  • At least Bachelor’s-level research qualifications, preferably specializing in language-related or anthropological study
  • 3+ years of social science research in development or humanitarian contexts
  • Demonstrated understanding of language barriers in relation to communication for development, or other humanitarian or development issues
  • Availability to deploy for field assessments in humanitarian contexts for periods of several weeks, and flexibility to deploy potentially at short notice and manage logistical contingencies
  • Strong information management skills and a track record of producing analysis clearly grounded in original data
  • Demonstrable understanding of ethical data collection and data protection practices
  • Experience designing and conducting multilingual surveys using Kobo DataCollect a plus
  • Mature and collaborative personality, self-starter, flexible and committed.
  • Experience designing and implementing social science research in humanitarian contexts and demonstrable understanding of how data supports program learning
  • Familiarity with humanitarian programming, particularly communication, community engagement and accountability
  • Verbal and written fluency in English; strong writing skills with a capacity for plain-language communication

Remuneration/salary
N790,000 - N840,000 / month.
