Development Discourse is a podcast that engages with deep thinkers on Africa's development challenges and how their work can help rebuild the continent. The podcast is an initiative of the NexTier Group, a multi-competency public policy advisory firm.

Job Title: Research Assistant

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Job Description

  • Development Discourse seeks a part-time research assistant to support the team's needs in all areas, specifically research and development of policy briefs.
  • In addition, the Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting the research necessary to produce the podcasts.
  • This task will include assistance with conceptualising the show, finding and evaluating the guests, tracking down sources, and performing in-depth research into various topics.

Requirements

  • Interested candidates should possess a Master's Degree qualification.
  • The ideal candidate loves reading and writing public policy documents, conducting self-directed research, and engaging with leading thinkers.
  • The candidate must be familiar with the different economic philosophies and the latest thought in the development space.
  • The candidate can verifiably prove their interest and commitment to finding solutions to Africa's problems.

The Research Assistant should:

  • Be a strong writer and editor, capable of assisting with the drafting and editing of research papers, policy briefs, and opinion articles,
  • Provide research and administrative support for the podcast host and team,
  • Assist the team in conceptualizing, scheduling, and executing original writing and research.
  • The ideal candidate for this position will have an outstanding academic record and at least five years of experience working in policy research or academic environment, with excellent writing, research, and communications skills.
  • In addition, the candidate should have a demonstrated interest in a wide range of policy topics and should have a firm grasp of African institutions and current events.
