Job Title: Protection Officer

Location: Bade / Damaturu - Yobe

Job Purpose

  • S/he will be responsible for developing and implementing protection strategies and interventions, identifying and addressing protection needs, and coordinating with various communities and other stakeholders under the M&A project.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the project coordinator, the project officer will identify and evaluate protection risks and needs of affected populations through surveys, interviews, and field visits to inform programmatic responses.
  • Design and implement protection strategies and action plans to address identified risks.
  • Offer support and provide information on available services, assisting with access to safe spaces for vulnerable groups.
  • The protection officer will create and implement protection plans and follow policies to address identified needs and vulnerabilities.
  • Lead on case management activities and supervise in designated field sites, with support from case workers.
  • Track and assess the effectiveness of protection programs and adjust based on evaluations and feedback.
  • Prepare activity plans with line staff as necessary and ensure smooth implementation of these plans.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of protection interventions, document and analyse protection incidents.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders to ensure accountability and inform future actions.
  • Any other duty or responsibility assigned by line manager.

Person Specifications
Education / Qualifications:

  • First Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field is essential.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies and agencies is desirable.

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years’ post NYSC experience in protection programming, case management, or a related field preferably in a humanitarian or development context is essential.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools is essential.
  • Related experience on WFP-funded project is desirable.
  • Experience in providing psychosocial support and case management services is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of protection principles, policies, and practices is essential.

Skills / Abilities:

  • Understanding of protection laws and human rights standards.
  • Ability to produce reports and high-level conflict analysis.
  • Excellent planning and prioritization skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Excellent knowledge on protection principles.
  • Excellent strategic planning skills.
  • Strong organizational and report - writing skills.
