How can you make a difference?

  • U-report is a free SMS-based social monitoring tool for community participation, designed to address issues that the population cares aboutSMS polls and alerts are sent out to U-reporters and real-time response information is collected
  • Results and ideas are shared back with the communityIssues polled include among others health, education, water, sanitation and hygiene, youth unemployment, HIV/AIDS, disease outbreaks, social welfare sectors, etc
  • Data received can be disaggregated by age, gender, States, LGAs, Wards and settlements in real timeRegistration is voluntary with SMS free to the users across all networks
  • Under the supervision of the Chief of Field Office, Lagos, the incumbent will drive and support the Nigerian youth to have increased access to information and participation on key issues that concerns them.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Develop a strategy for effective usage of UReport information, focusing on ensuring that reports are directed to appropriate duty bearers and officials at the local level for follow-up.
  • Engaging youth organizations, community-based and faith-based organizations, including building their capacity and supporting efforts to integrate UReport into their general work and effectively utilize the data.
  • Training new partner focal points on how to monitor the website, as needed.
  • Devising and implementing strategies to integrate UReport information into programmatic aspects of UNICEF and Government of Nigeria work
  • Conducting monitoring, analysis and evaluation aspects of UReport Nigeria.
  • Participate and/or facilitate in scaling out and replicating of UNICEF Nigeria developed digital projects by promoting them among UNICEF partners.
  • Coordinating with UNICEF, its partners and software developer teams to advise them on modifications to the existing web platform (both public-facing and administrative).
  • Working with the Generation Unlimited, Communications and C4D sections at UNICEF to design and run both national and sub-national communication campaigns across all media outlets (print, radio and TV) and strategies for reaching and increasing youth participation and dialogue.
  • Identify technical strategy for the establishment of the U-Report in Nigeria, introduction and technology to be agreed with local providers.
  • Lead and facilitate negotiations with local providers (cell companies and other digital technology providers.
  • Working with government counterparts including Ministry focal points, and Local Governments to constructively engage them in the campaign potentially through establishment of the UReport Steering Committee or interaction with the defined focal points at geopolitical areas.
  • Coordinating with other similar campaigns, in the country to harmonize roll-out.
  • Monitoring the U-report administrative website and supervising the monitoring and communications activities of the partners (youth, community and faith-based organizations).
  • Facilitate an updating of the U-report website regularly with new content.
  • Liaise with the focal points within the CO to ensure programme integration and that SMSs are reviewed and approved before being sent out.

Job Requirements
To qualify as an advocate for every Child you will have:

  • An advanced University Degree in Computer Science, Business, Marketing or any related field
  • 5 years of relevant working experience at the national and/or international levels
  • Fluency in English and another UN languageKnowledge of the local working language of the duty station.
  • Knowledge of the latest developments and technology in the related fields.

Other skills:

  • Analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
  • Supervisory and managerial skills.
  • Previous positive work experience with UNICEF would be an advantage.
  • *A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, Marketing or any related field with additional 2 years' experience may be considered.
  • Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization.
