Job Title: Operations Geologist
Location:
Lagos
Job Role and Characteristics

  • Using a broad range of geoscience skills and experience, make key contributions to well and data acquisition design (lateral and horizontal completions)
  • Bring to bear experience in stimulation design and execution
  • Oversee contractor well site operations and carry out well site geologist duties as required
  • Develop relationships with all well site contractors
  • Interface with Nigeria drilling experts to solve problems and jointly develop solutions
  • Communicate the results of drilling progress to team and management
  • Be proactive in technical discussions, risk assessment and decision making pre- and post- well completion
  • Oversee the geological aspects of drilling, working closely with the exploration geologist and well engineers
  • Liaise closely with logging, coring, drilling and facing contractors to design wellbore, mud programs, and during drilling/stimulation operations
  • Make recommendations on all HSE aspects of well design and drilling
  • Be instrumental in the design of the geological operations process
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's of Science or PhD Degree in Geology.
  • Five to fifteen years’ experience in Nigeria shale exploration or development projects, including drilling/stimulating shale wells (vertical and horizontal completions)
  • Expertise in logging, coring and formation evaluation in a variety of shale/tight sandstone plays
  • Geological strengths should include sedimentology and rock mechanics (with an emphasis on stress regimes and formation pressure)
  • A proven track record of delivery in drilling of Nigeria shale wells
  • Enthusiastic, with a high energy work ethic
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-starter, with the ability to create innovative processes and ways of working
  • Ability to handle challenging operational activities
  • Ability to advise on mitigation of geo-hazards
  • Working knowledge of Nigeria geology, especially shale play basins is an advantage
  • Expertise in geo-steering applications
  • Experience in micro-seismic monitoring and operations
  • Ability to work independently in a multi-disciplinary team
