Role Overview

  • Under the supervision of the Principal Programme Officer Human Resource in Health, the incumbent shall update course modules as well as lead the development and standardisation of training (basic and post-basic); within the region.
  • S/he shall advocate for the development of Pharmacy and Allied Health Profession as well as develop the harmonised drug regulation policy.
  • S/he shall collaborate with the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) in identifying suitably trained pharmacists, allied health professionals; and drug quality control. S/he shall be responsible for the production of a regular journal,

Role and Responsibilities
The incumbent will:

  • Organise workshops, seminars, and update courses for pharmacists and allied health professionals in the ECOWAS region.
  • Maintain a directory and interact with pharmacy and allied health schools and related institutions.
  • Identify appropriate training institutions for post-basic and specialist pharmacy and allied health training.
  • Take a lead role in the development of curriculum for training pharmacists and allied health professionals.
  • Develop a harmonised drug regulation policy for the sub-region.
  • Publish suitable educational materials e.g. journals, modules etc. for the continuing education of pharmacists and allied health professional.
  • Identity and maintain records of suitably trained pharmacist and allied health professionals for any Technical Assistance Programme to Member States.
  • Develop of a drug policy for the sub-region.
  • Collaborate closely with the West African Postgraduate Colleges to ensure their progressive development and expansion.
  • Collaborate closely with ECOWAS member states and other relevant International Organisations and Partners in the development of human resources in pharmacy and allied health.
  • Collaborate with appropriate regional Institutions and Organisations to ensure progressive development of the structures necessary for the maintenance of standards of training and practice of the Allied Health Professions and pharmacists in the region.
  • Monitor and evaluate the training programme of institutions training pharmacists and allied health professionals.

Academic Qualifications and Experience
Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine or Pharmacy or Nursing or Medical Science or any of the Allied Health Sciences from a recognised university.

Experience:

  • 5 to 7 years of progressive responsible experience in the implementation of healthcare programs;
  • Knowledge of quality assurance standards in the ECOWAS region and Non Communicable Diseases strategy;
  • Ability to manage relationship with partner organizations, Ministries of Health and other relevant regulatory bodies to foster solid cooperation.

Role Overview

  • Under the supervision of the Principal Programme Officer Healthcare Delivery, the incumbent shall lead and effectively coordinate the Traditional Medicine programme to support the ECOWAS member states to integrate it in their health systems.
  • The incumbent shall be required to consolidate the gains made and introduce other innovative activities, particularly in the areas of harmonization of national policies and regulatory frameworks, development of training tools for traditional medicine practitioners and other health professionals, promotion of dialogue between the practitioners of traditional Medicine and conventional medicine, promotion of research and development of plant medicines, conservation of medicinal plants and protection of indigenous knowledge.

Role and Responsibilities
The incumbent shall:

  • Consolidate the gains made in its traditional medicine promotion effort.
  • Provide leadership to the Member States on the promotion of rational traditional medicine practices and its integration into their national health systems.
  • Promote strategies for the development of national policies, legal frameworks and codes of conduct for the practice of traditional medicine.
  • Advocate strongly for the inclusion of traditional medicine in undergraduate courses of medical schools and other healthcare institutions.
  • Facilitate the development of structured training programmes in traditional medicine.
  • Facilitate the establishment of traditional medicine practitioners' associations for effective implementation of national and regional policies.
  • Organize the compilation of inventories of medicinal plants of proven efficacy.
  • Establish an effective and sustainable network of West African scientists to undertake research in traditional medicine.

Role Overview

  • Under the supervision of the Directorate’s Director, the incumbent shall be responsible for ensuring health facilities quality assurance, patient safety, risk management programmes and systems-level outcomes within the organization.
  • He/she shall direct the efforts of all the performance improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • S/He shall focus on quality systems, patient experience and management of clinical risks.
  • This role shall involve working independently and collaboratively with other Programme Officers to ensure the establishment of quality healthcare standards and effective functioning of clinical risk frameworks.

Role and Responsibilities
The incumbent will:

  • Advocate and establish a culture of safety and quality standards throughout WAHO’s programmes;
  • Plan and create a Regional Standards and Quality Procedure Manual;

Role Overview

  • Under the supervision of the Administrative Officer, the General Administrative Officer shall play an active role in the overall organization, management and delivery of office support services by ensuring smooth operation of ongoing administrative functions including the creation of a conduisive work environment, health and safety, equipment, assets, building and utility management, information storing and retrieval systems, etc.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper maintenance of office equipment, assets, vehicle and infrastructure;
  • Monitor clients’ accounts;
  • Ensure that vendors and contractors are paid in a timely manner;
  • Supervise the housekeeping and maintenance of the building;
  • Monitor energy and usage;
  • Develop strategies minimisation of energy and water usage;
  • Prepare and follow up on documents relating to shipments/freights, customs clearance, office material or staff transfers, deployment or repatriation;
  • Provide information to staff regarding office administrative procedures, processes and practices;
  • Manage WAHO office supplies;
  • Prepare regular reports in SAP using the Material Management Module (e.g. supplies and replenishment alerts);
  • Manage vehicle movement, including scheduling, servicing, log books, fuel coupons etc.

Academic Qualifications and Experience
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Public Administration or a related field from a recognized university;

Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in protocol, public information, external relations or a related area with significant experience in organizing events/meetings in an international setting is required;
  • knowledge of conference services and documentation;
  • Familiarity with administrative and financial policies and procedures related to conference services and procedures in a governmental or international organization.
