As part of DA, DMA Trading and Storage a major player in the grain and oilseeds value chains in Nigeria owns a total of 250,000 metric tons storage and pre-storage processing facilities is looking for suitably qualified candidates to fill the position below:       Job Title: Senior Silo Operator Locations: Bauchi, Ekiti, Jos, Okenne, Minna, Ogoja , Sokoto and Oyo Duration: Fulltime (subject to yearly review based on performance) Job Description

  • The Senior Silo Operator will work with the Location Manager of the Silo to ensure operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Monitor activities affecting environmental quality.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing products for quality checks and strict adherence to customer specifications.
  • Set up and operate silos equipment in accordance with current good storage and food handling practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Operate industrial equipment efficiently.
  • Calibrate or adjust scientific or technical equipment to ensure quality production, using tools such as callipers, micrometres, height gauges, protractors, or ring gauges.
  • Test performance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, or integrated systems or equipment.
  • Troubleshoot problems with equipment, devices, or products; determining causes of operational problems or failures.
  • Monitor the productivity or efficiency of silos operations, monitoring and adjusting production processes or equipment for quality and productivity.
  • Start up and shut down processing equipment; Operate silos equipment efficiently.
  • Assist engineers in developing, building, or testing prototypes or new products, processes, or procedures.
  • Measure and record data associated with operating equipment, measuring physical or chemical properties of materials or objects.
  • Keep production logs, and prepare daily operational reports.
  • Maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products.
  • Select cleaning materials, tools, project materials or equipment.
  • Package outgoing grains in the appropriate packaging materials for transport in recommended standards
  • Performs other duties or ad-hoc duties as directed by the Director of Operation.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree/HND in Agricultural or Mechanical/Production Engineering with between 2-5 years of relevant working experience.
  • Technically sound and flexible with proven operational handling experience is required.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work technically with generators, electric-motors, conveyor-belts, dryers, car, forklift, bagging equipment, truck, and weighbridge) are preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated written, analytical, presentation, reporting and computing skills and familiarity with modern communication systems (internet, the worldwide web, Emails and WhatsApp).

      Job Title: Local/ Technical Field Agent Locations: Bauchi, Ekiti, Okenne, Jos, Minna, Ogoja and Sokoto Duration: Fulltime (subject to yearly review based on performance) Job Description
  • The Local Technical Field Agent will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing grains from the farmers and grain market and developing and coordinating a network of farmer’s cooperative to produce grain DMA Trading and Storage.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Facilitate the sourcing and purchase of grains for the silos together with Trading Assistant/Commercial Officers;
  • Develop and manage a network of grain producers and suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with farmers and grain traders and other key stakeholders in the grain value chain.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor activities together with Trading Assistant/Commercial Officers;
  • Plan and complete frequent desk and field marketing research on the grain value chain.
  • Monitor and report daily and weekly farm gate and spot market price of grains around and within the states where the silo is located.
  • Report weekly/monthly on the status of the grain market to the grain trade and storage directors.
  • Identify, develop and manage network grain farmers to produce grains for the silos;
  • Develop and maintain a database of all farmers in DA’s farmer’s cooperative including their assets.
  • Supervise and monitor the production of grains on the field of farmers in DA’s farmer’s cooperative from land preparation to the silos to align with global GAP.
  • Organize and coordinate on-time distribution and delivery of farm inputs to grain farmers in DA’s farmer’s cooperative.
  • Plan and organize production timetable for all crop production activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all farm machinery and equipment used by the DA’s farmer’s cooperative.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly record-keeping of all grain production activities and report writing to the Junior Master Farmers
  • Design and implement knowledge transfer and capacity building program for DA’s farmer’s cooperative in close consultation together with the Junior Master Farmer;
  • Training of DA’s farmer’s cooperative on the latest good agronomic practices and technology.
  • Advisory and consultancy service to DA’s farmer’s cooperative.
  • Actively participate in the monitoring and evaluation of all activities on the farm and market.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must have a good educational background in Agriculture with emphasis on agronomy, (crop, soil and weed management), agribusiness, agricultural economics and extension;
  • Should have a minimum of 0-2 years working experience with relevance in agriculture and agribusiness;
  • Previous experience with the private sector and hands-on market linkages will be an added advantage;
  • Well proven skills in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Must be energetic, creative, and willing to learn;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English Language;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Understanding of local languages is an added advantage.
Key Competencies:
  • Must have previous experience in agribusiness and be willing to spend long periods travelling and staying in rural areas;

  • Implement quality control tests in the lab as well as on-site when necessary
  • Perform the testing and calibrating of laboratory equipment in preparation for specific tasks;

  • Follow all company policies and procedures to ensure product integrity and quality control;

  • Monitoring the weigh bridge and calibrating the inward and outward movement of all trucks/vehicles in the silo locations and farms;
  • Operate controls, levers, and valves to start pumps, auxiliary equipment, or conveyors, and to adjust equipment positions, speeds, timing, and material flows. Operate conveyors or other industrial material moving equipment;
  • Controlling traffic flow and safety of vehicles within the weighbridge area;
  • Ensuring all visiting drivers/contractors and customers are issued the location rules and have signed in and out of location;
  • Ensuring accurate data entry for containers and vehicles as needed;
  • Keep fuel and lubricants records and along same the maintenance record on the location;
  • Fill reports of maintenance and operation of the weighbridge;
  • Support location operations manager with HSE reporting including reporting of hazards, near-misses and accidents;

  • The Silo / Location Manager will manage the day to day business activities and operations of the silo facilities to store grains and oilseeds.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks Relationship with host communities:
  • Develop and maintain good and healthy relations with local communities and their traditional authorities.
  • Management of all key operations in and around the silo;
  • Responsible for storage, handling, quality control, testing, weighing and maintaining the grain quality
  • Responsible for the storage, handling and bagging of grains on site
  • Ensure periodic quality controls and checks of stock including testing, weighing grain and fumigation
  • Leads and manages the Storage (Site) Operations.
  • Supervision and management of logistics and haulage activities in the site;
  • Coordination of Haulage trucks in and out of the site
  • Organizes bagging and loading of trucks for delivery of grain to various customers and distribution centres.
Record-keeping:
  • Report and document the dispatch and receipt of stock/goods.
  • Ensure invoice/receipts meet contracts and comply with company audit procedures and standards
  • Maintain safety stock levels in accordance to demand planning schedule
  • Prepare weekly and monthly operational reports to communicate performance metrics to the management.
Inventory Management:
  • Ensure inventory is stored appropriately to ensure safety and quality standards
  • Assist in stock counts on a continual basis, check for current placement and identification of stock
  • Ensure all records in the areas of safety, logistics, procurement, human resources, inventory etc. is maintained in an orderly and logistically manner
  • Ensure strict adherence to HSE rules and regulation within and around the silo;
  • Develop and implement health, safety and environment policies and procedures to ensure HSE obligations are fulfilled
  • Develop and train all staffs  on HSE obligations and reporting of hazards, near-misses and accidents
Team Management:
  • Supervise, lead and coach a productive team on the silo location through effective and ongoing communications to achieve the Company objectives (up to 10 employees)
  • Organize resourcing levels and rosters (i.e. casuals) to adequately meet delivery schedules including grain inventory, supply and movement.
  • Performs other tasks or ad-hoc duties as directed by the director of operations.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Agribusiness Management or other related Management courses with at least 5 years relevant working experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness Management with at least 7 years relevant working experience in the agro-processing industry.
  • Good Knowledge and experience of fumigation and pesticide in relation to grains.
  • Good commercial knowledge of the industry parameters and an appreciation for operational costs of crops (specific to grains and oilseeds).
  • Proven Project Management experience is required.
  • Strong experience and knowledge of commercial grain and using a commercial ERP system is very essential.
  • Safety Licenses and qualifications (including car, forklift, truck, and weighbridge) are preferred
  • Strong English language skill in writing and speaking is very essential and effective communication in Native Language of the specific location.

  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain equipment, machinery, and work stations, using hand tools, shovels, brooms, chemicals, hoses and lubricant. Clean facilities or work areas, machinery or equipment and maintain material moving equipment in good working condition.
  • Perform the testing and calibrating of industrial equipment in preparation for specific tasks.
  • Operate elevator systems in conjunction with conveyor systems or other industrial material moving equipment.
