Job Title: Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Communication Assistant - Nigeria SCALE

Location: Abuja
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 1 year, with possibility of extension for an additional 6 months

Project Overview and Role

  • The objective of the SCALE project is to support civil society organizations (CSOs) and business membership organizations (BMOs) across all of USAID/Nigeria’s programmatic sectors with a basket of managerial, business strengthening, and advocacy capacity-building interventions aimed at advancing Nigerian CSO sustainability combined with targeted grants to advance mutually agreed upon priorities.
  • The activity is designed to enhance local civil society organizations’ ability to be positive and responsible change agents in Nigeria.
  • The SCALE project requires a highly motivated Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Communication (MEL-C) Assistant to join its Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Unit. The MEL-C assistant will support all communications, documentation, data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and learning program activities.
  • In this capacity, they will undertake monitoring and evaluation tasks and contribute to maintaining the project’s monitoring and evaluation systems for gathering, reporting, and analyzing performance data for impact.
  • They will perform general technical, administrative, and monitoring program tasks to support SCALE activities across the project’s intervention sectors, including Tuberculosis, Trafficking in Persons, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, Health, Education, etc.
  • The selected candidate will report to the project’s Knowledge Management Officer.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to monitoring the Activity Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Plan (AMELP) to systematically document performance for technical team to ensure implementation is on track.
  • Supports monitoring and tracking of project activities against the results framework.
  • Conducts virtual assessments with partners as necessary for data validation to monitor the quality and completeness of data sets.
  • Supports the development of reports, communications materials, and engagement activities, documenting events and activities.
  • Supports the production of infographics and communication materials for dissemination.
  • Develops communications campaigns to highlight thematic topic areas as necessary and helps develop and implement engagement strategies.
  • With oversight of the Knowledge Management Officer, develops tailored content and ensures consistent visibility of the project through the management of the project’s social media platforms of the communication strategy.
  • Facilitates media and social media administrative processes.
  • Organizes and backstops webinars and other learning events.
  • Provides secretarial, administrative, and logistical support for meetings and other project events.
  • Works closely with the Project Advisors to support SCALE partners with implementing project interventions.
  • Works closely with the project partners to build their MEL and communications capacity.
  • Manages the physical and virtual filing system for project documents and attendance sheets.

Required Qualifications

  • A Degree in Demography, Statistics, Social Sciences, Journalism, Knowledge Management, Public Policy Communications or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and oral/written communication skills in English.
  • Experience with USAID-funded governance programs highly desired.
  • Must be authorized to work in Nigeria.
  • Minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning and/or communications and knowledge management tasks for development projects.
  • Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required, basic knowledge in statistical software and graphic design software a plus with room for improvement.
