Our vision is enhancing healthier and safer communities, while our mission is to collaborate with partners to promote comprehensive and sustainable interventions for public health, support military medicine and health diplomacy for peace, stability and development of communities. Over the years HIFASS has provided manpower and associated support to HJF Medical Research International, Ltd Gte in support of Nigerian Military HIV program across 33 Military Formations.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:



Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist

Location: Benue State Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, Benue
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Project Site Coordinator
Work Hours: Full-time 40 hours/week

Basic Function

  • The incumbent will support the laboratory components for the Project on the development of a National Malaria Slide Bank (RV 487).

Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collection, labelling, transport, and processing of samples for the Project.
  • Coordinates the performance of laboratory tests for the Project.
  • Identifies and develops appropriate and relevant SOPs for the study.
  • Ensures proper storage and maintenance of Project samples, reagents and equipment.
  • Ensures timely report on the usage of reagents and consumables to prevent stock out.
  • Ensures quality and safety processes in the all phases of laboratory procedures in line with international standards and best practices.
  • Inventory management of laboratory supplies/equipment for the Project.
  • Receives specimens, performs clinical laboratory tests by standardized procedures and principles.
  • Performs laboratory tests necessary to provide information for use by the Project team per protocol.
  • Interacts with other members of the Project team to provide timely, accurate, reliable and internationally acceptable laboratory Project data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Specification

  • Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Prior Work Experience: A minimum of four (4) years’ work experience in Medical Laboratory Science, including at least 2 years’ experience in public health program or malaria diagnosis at a Health Facility.
  • Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: Registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) with an up-to-date practicing license. National Certification in Malaria Microscopy.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in Parasitology/Microbiology, laboratory management.
  • Experience in implementing laboratory quality management system.
  • Knowledge and ability to regularly update and store laboratory documents.
  • Training in Basic malaria microscopy or malaria diagnostics.
  • Ability to use computer and office software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, MS-Access, Outlook, and Adobe PDF).
  • Experience in clinical laboratory investigations and data entry.
  • Excellent English language written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Other Specification:

  • Candidates must be resident or ready to relocate to Benue State.

Remuneration
N180,000 - N188,000 Salary Monthly.
