Position Summary
- Search Nigeria is seeking a media intern that will be responsible for supporting the implementation of media components of the RESILAC project.
- S/he will also assist the implementation of all media activities in the Northeast including media campaign to raise public awareness and knowledge around issues as they relate to the local context of the target States; and follow Search’s media programming approach to create high-quality relevant radio and television programs, that increase public awareness of these issues across the target States and contribute to changing attitudes and challenging stereotypes.
About the Project
- The overall objective of the RESILAC project is to contribute to the economic recovery and to the strengthening of the resilience and the social cohesion of the territories of the Lake Chad basin most impacted by the Lake Chad crisis and the climate change.
- The regions targeted by the project are located in the immediate vicinity of the main outbreak of the crisis in the four countries bordering Lake Chad:
- Cameroon, the Far North
- Niger, Diffa region
- Chad, Lake region and
- Nigeria, Borno State.
- The specific objectives/pillars of the project are:
- Strengthening human capital, social cohesion and collective and sustainable management of natural resources in targeted territories;
- Promoting economic recovery in targeted areas and the resilience of the most vulnerable populations, especially young people and women, through access to employment and agro-sylvo-pastoral production systems intensified and adapted to climate change;
- Valuing and consolidating the actors of the targeted territories by encouraging dialogue and commitment, and reinforcing their capacities according to the skills and roles of each one; and
- Producing useful knowledge for the quality of project activities in a crisis context and for decision-making by local actors.
- Search for Common Ground (Search) is responsible for implementation of Pillar 1 in Nigeria, in partnership with Action Against Hunger (AAH) and Neem Foundation. This will contribute to the creation of the conditions for a broad alliance in these territories by recreating social links between and within the communities most affected by the crisis and by helping victims of violence overcome their traumas and to resume trust. Collective and participatory activities will make it possible to offer means of analysis and shared actions to peacefully manage conflict, access and use of limited natural resources.
Deliverables:
- Ensure that radio producers submit weekly activity reports
- Ensure all media activities are documented.
- Attend meetings/trainings organized by Search for Common Ground, which have direct bearing to the program and production of it.
- Support the team by brainstorming new ideas, writing and researching on topics for media content
- Produce at least one Human Interest Story on all projects with media component each month
- Support and sometimes coordinate radio producers & presenters for both live and recorded output
- Ensure activity pictures, videos and audios of each episode of radio programs are uploaded on Search’s google drive
- Ensure that radio producers/presenters capture into the excel media log all suggestions and observations of the programs
Reporting Line:
- The Intern will work under the direct supervision of Search’s Media Coordinator in Maiduguri.
Required Profile
Education:
- Diploma or Degree in Media or Communications, Journalism, Theater Arts, or a related field is an added advantage.
Experience:
- Student or fresh graduate with little or some form of experience working with a broadcast media in Borno state.
- Working on radio programming and media production is an added advantage.
Other Relevant Requirements:
- Creativity
- Excellent written communication and report writing skills in English
- Must be fluent in Hausa/Kanuri
- Basic IT and typing skills
- Ability to work with and meet tight deadlines
- Motivation and self-discipline to work without supervision.

- The internship will begin February 1, 2022 and end July 31, 2022.
