Job Title: Manager, Mining Engineering

Job Description
- The Mining Engineering Manager’s role is to provide the mining
engineering capacity to the production function in order to ensure
efficient execution of underground mining operations.
- The role’s primary focus is on underground mine design, operational planning and engineering integration.
- The role holder will also be responsible for the integration and
direction of production and services functions to be performed in
accordance with the overall mine plan.
- The incumbent is further responsible for ensuring effective
cross-functional coordination between geotechnical, geology, mine
planning, survey, engineering, backfill, contractors, mine support
functions, construction, business Improvement and production and to
ensure efficient and effective technical services are provided.
- The scope of the role Includes leading and administration of the department.
- The incumbent will be responsible for the comprehensive medium-
and short-term mine planning strategies and the production engineering
function responsible for drill and blast design and QAQC (Quality
Assurance, Quality Control).
- A project management style coordination system is to be implemented for effective execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and technical direction: Production (drill and blast, short-term planning and medium-term planning)
- Ensuring cross-functional coordination to support the overall operational performance objectives and SHEC standards
- Maintaining stope database and reconciliation
- Administration, and coordination of the departments within the scope of responsibility
- Production engineering: Drill and blast designs with associated
QAQC processes required for efficient extraction of the ore-body,
services infrastructure planning and coordination
- Overall coordination of productive capacity across functional
disciplines, including business improvement projects Identifying and
reacting to risks In terms of safety and productive output
- Developing systems to control and measure progress, compliance with plans and report deviations.
- Short- term scheduling: Development and approval of the monthly
accepted plans, together with change management processes, and related
administration, and daily compliance reporting . Section planning: Safe
development and stope design; stops area layouts; concept extraction
sequences; infrastructure planning; stope area notes; and reconciliation
- Medium-term planning: Development of a rolling 3-month plan
updated monthly to incorporate latest changes, together with a monthly
annual forecast
Requirements
- The appointee must be in possession of a degree in Mining
Engineering and a Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency as wall as a
postgraduate Business or Project Management qualification.
- He/she must also be a registered member of SAIMM or other relevant professional body.
- 10 years’ experience in the mining and/or mineral sector Is
essential, together with management leadership experience and exposure
to underground mining production and planning experience.
- Further requirements include operating proficiency in Microsoft
Office, mine design and planning software, and technical competency in
drill and blest design, as well as mine scheduling.
Job Title: Production Engineer

Job Description
- The Production Engineer Is responsible for leading the
short-term mining, engineering and services scheduling, initiating,
tracking and closing out of production-related activities. In addition,
the role is functionally responsible br doll and blast designs and
related quality control processes.
- The incumbent is responsible for leadership, technical direction
as well as management processes and systems to ensure that the function
is aligned to and supports the overall operational performance
objectives and SHEC standards.
- The incumbent is responsible for ensuring effective
cross-functional coordination between geotechnical. geology, mine
planning, survey and production and to ensure efficient and effective
technical services are provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and technical direction of drill and blast and short-term planning (scheduling)
- Ensuring cross- functional coordination to ensure the role
supports the overall operational performance objectives and SHEC
standards
- Management processes and systems: Drill and blast; short-term planning
- Production drill and blast: Safe designs and plans for stops
rings, slots and service holes; drill and blast compliance reporting;
consumable reports and ordering; reporting; Input Into short- and
medium-term plans
- Short-term scheduling: Presentation; schedule for weekly plan
(aligns with month): daily compliance reporting; and effective
communication and coordination with the production department.
Requirements
- The successful candidate will be in possession of a
degree/diploma in Mining Engineering, Geology Mine Planning or Rock
Engineering, while a Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency would be
advantageous.
- 7 years’ experience in the mining end/or mineral sector is
important, With leadership exposure and underground operating,
production and planning, drilling and charge design with QAQC experience
also required.
- The incumbent must be competent in the use of mine planning software and have operating proficiency In Microsoft Office.
Job Title: Drill and Blast Engineer

Job Description
- The Drill and Blast Engineer will facilitate the optimal
extraction of gold ore from mining operations through the provision of
quality design and coordination of underground drill and blast
activities.
- Role objectives will include the development of production drill
and blast designs as well as execution of quality control and assurance
of blasting practices.
- The role is responsible for implementation of a continuous
learning feedback loop based on results observation and embedding of
design improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Production drill designs and plans, Stops rings, slots anti service holes
- Production blast designs and charge plans Drill compliance report: Hole accuracy, OA’QC
- Blast compliance report: In-stope reconciliation
- Blast consumable reports and ordering
- Giving input into weekly, monthly and quarterly pre-planning and planning meetings
- Drill and blast data management
- Stops reconciliation and compliance with design reporting
- All planning, extraction sequencing, design and scheduling of
ring drilling and blasting (Benching and Open Stopes), utilising blast
design are.Monitoring and reacting to ensure the fragmentation and waste
dilation is within acceptable limits
- Maintaining and improving safe work practices
- Developing standards and procedures to improve safety arid Drill and Blest practices
- Preparation and analysis of Drill and Blast reports
- Developing and initiating continuous improvement projects
- Ensuring that holes are drilled to current plan, to the correct
pattern, depth and inclination to achieve the desired blast results
(QA/QC)
- Optimising fragmentation and downstream processes holistic approach blast-to-mill throughput concept)
- Ring drilling, timing and blasting performance modelling and
adjustment according to ground conditions in consultation with the
Geotechnical Engineer
- Implementing and managing control systems to monitor and Improve
drilling, timing and blasting practices (development and stoping)
- Drill and blast cost planning as well as reconciliation, monitoring and improvement of cost
- Participating in short-term, medium-term and long-term planning
(strategic business plan) Management of the Drill and Blast database
- Administering and controlling the explosives and associated products supply chain
- Identifying and reacting to risks in terms of safety and productive output.
Requirements
- The incumbent must have a Mine Overseer’s Certificate of
Competency, a Certificate in Drill and Blast Design Competence end be in
possession of a Magazine Master and Blasting Certificate.
- 5 years’ experience in the mass mechanised mining and/or mineral
sector is imperative, as well as underground mining production and
production drilling and charge up experience.
- Competency in mine and blasting pattern design software is also
required, together with operating proficiency in Microsoft Office, mine
design and planning software, technical competency in drill and blast
design, as well as mine scheduling.

the relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health and Safety Centre and pass a
heath tolerance screening test.
