Laboratory Supervisor at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)


Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid in more than 60 countries to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural or man-made disasters or exclusion from healthcare.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

 

Job Title: Laboratory Supervisor

Location: Zurmi, Zamfara
Contract Period: Six Months
Contract: 208 working hours per month
Grade Level: 7
Possibility of extension: Yes

Main Purpose

  • Plan, organize and carry out laboratory activities. Supervise laboratory staff according to MSF protocols, maintain security measures and hygiene standards in order to support MSF medical teams in diagnosing patients’ diseases.

Job Description

  • Participate in project planning, follow-up and review of the laboratory budget when necessary
  • Ensure compliance of MSF hygiene and safety protocols and advise staff of existing biological risks.
  • Perform laboratory tests and carrying out sample collection (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology, parasitology).
  • Supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, coaching, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility  
  • Ensure  that all staff utilizing medical devices are qualified and trained.
  • Ensure  cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed  according to the protocols.
  • Producing regular reports on tests and on any additional problems related to laboratory personnel or material used.
  • Ensure proper management (cleaning, maintenance, arranging) of all laboratory equipment and maintain adequate supply of needed equipment and material in order to prevent stock-outs..
  • In the absence of a Laboratory Manager, ensure proper registration and needs of all lab related activities and implement a correct use of the associated management tool (EpyTryp. Etc.).

Requirements
Education:

  • Essential: University Degree in Laboratory Science.

Experience:

  • Essential: 2 years experience in a laboratory, preferably as a Lab Tech.
  • Desirable in MSF or another NGO, desirable in a clinical laboratory.

Language:

  • Local and Mission language essential.

Knowledge:

  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet).

Gross Monthly Salary

  • According to MSF National Contract Scale
