Solidarites International (SI) has not been active in Nigeria in the past and therefore has a limited experience in the country. SI sent a first exploratory team in Nigeria (North-Eastern States) for three weeks in April. A continued presence of senior managers has been maintained since mid-May in
Borno state and Abuja. Additionally, SI registration in Nigeria is ongoing with the help of a local lawyer.

Job Title: WATSAN (Water and Sanitation) Team Leader
Location:
Monguno, Maiduguri, Borno
Job Description

  • The position of WatSan Team Leader is based in Monguno and supports the Wash project implemented in Monguno, Borno State.
  • Under the direct supervision of the WaSH PM Assistant and indirectly the WASH Program Manager, the WatSan Team Leader will be in charge of setting up all activities related to improving access to water and sanitation including needs assessments, activities’ implementation and monitoring and project evaluation.
  • More precisely, the WatSan Team Leader will be responsible for rehabilitation or construction of boreholes or other water points, creation and training of water committees, monitoring of water quality, construction of emergency latrines and bathing areas, including purchase of the appropriate material to the coordination of the WatSan community mobilizer and foremen in order to ensure the quality of the implemented activities and provide technical support for all WatSan related issues. He/she will ensure that SI’s technical recommendations and procedures are followed.
Main Tasks
Setting up the activities /control and supervision:
  • Plan the weekly activities for his/her team and have them approved by his/her Project Manager:
  • Plan human resources needs (daily workers, workers...)
  • Organize and carry out, with his/her team, tasks assigned by his/her Project Manager
  • Supervise and monitor each stage of activity. Ensure that standards and instructions given by his/her Project Manager, as well as Solidarités procedures, are followed
  • Respect schedules and deadlines agreed upon with his/her Project Manager
  • Report back any problems and constraints encountered during the course of the activities and suggest operational solutions
  • Plan tool and material needs (request from stock)
  • Anticipate administrative issues (requests in advance)
  • Anticipate logistics issues (transport, communication means...)
Logistics and Administration:
  • When recruiting daily workers, follow procedures and directives outlined by his/her Project manager and the administrative service
  • Ensure that safety procedures are followed by members of his/her team
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of material delivered to working sites
  • Ensure the receipt and storage of material and equipment necessary for his/her work to be carried out on site
  • Train his/her team members to use and maintain the available tools correctly
  • Track usage with monitoring tools provided
  • Enforce safety procedures
Reporting / communication:
  • Take part in weekly program meetings and clusters on request
  • Establish and maintain good relations with local participants and communities (populations) in the operational fields
  • Listen to the populations and local participants in the field and report to his/her project manager any non-technical or safety-related issues which could affect the activities or safety of Solidarités International teams
  • Keep his/her monitoring tools and files archived in the Solidarités office, accessible to his/her Team Leader and/or project manager
  • Draw up and submit a weekly task report (which should include progress made by the team) to his/her project manager
  • Take part in the drafting of the monthly program pack
Requirements
  • Training: B.Sc in Project Management, Management, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation, Engineering or any related field.
  • Knowledge of technical design software as a plus
  • Professional experience: 2 year of experience in similar position (NGO/Private or Public sector)
  • Personal qualities: reliable, honest, very good organization, resistance to stress, good interpersonal skills (communication), team player.
  • Languages: English, Haussa, Kanuri
  • Project related skills : good knowledge of the project cycle, project implementation, project follow-up
  • IT skills: Good knowledge of Office software: Excel, Word, Outlook

Job Title: Hygiene Promotion Team Leader
Location:
Monguno, Borno
Job Description

  • The position of HP Team Leader is based in Monguno and supports the Wash project implemented in Monguno, Borno State.
  • Under the direct supervision of the WaSH PM Assistant and indirectly the WASH Program Manager, the HP&CM Team Leader will be in charge of setting up all activities related to Hygiene Promotion including needs assessments, activities’ implementation and monitoring and project evaluation.
  • More precisely, the HP Team Leader will be responsible for implementation of hygiene promotion activities in IDP camps, including realization of hygiene related surveys, organization of sensitization sessions about hygiene practices, supervision of the team of hygiene promoters, identification and referral of SAM (Sever Acute Malnutrition) cases to medical partners.
  • The HP Team Leader will have to ensure the quality of the implemented activities and provide technical support. He/she will ensure that SI’s technical recommendations and procedures are followed.

  •  Line report(s) on base:  12 Hygiene Promoters and 4 SAM agents
Requirements
Training:
  • BSc in Project Management, Management, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation, Public Health or any related field.
