Job For Social Mobilization Lead at the Centre for Communication and Social Impact, 31st October, 2018

The Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI), formerly known as Centre for Communication Programs Nigeria (CCPN) was registered in 2001 as a Non-Governmental Organization with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria. Birthed in Nigeria by the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (JHCCP), Baltimore, USA, CCPN transitioned its operations under the new name CCSI after an exciting 10 years of growth and operations in Nigeria and other African countries. We are recruiting to fill the position below:     Job Title: Social Mobilization Lead Locations: Lagos, Nasarawa, Rivers Summary

  • Post-partum women have the highest unmet need for family planning in Nigeria, with only 6% using any modern contraception 6 months after delivery, and most often do not have FP services readily available to them. Adolescent girls and young women also have a high unmet need for family planning.
  • The project proposes to bridge the high unmet need for post-partum family planning services and among younger women by strengthening post pregnancy FP services targeting young women and first-time parents. These groups are often missed by the clinical health care system due to high rates of home deliveries. The project will build on previous experience of working with traditional birth attendants (TBAs) and Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) to reach these groups of women with home-based post-pregnancy family planning (PPFP) and build a strong referral system between the communities and facilities especially for post-abortion care (PAC).
  • Three states of Lagos, Nasarawa and Rivers are targeted for this project in Nigeria because they have the highest population of women aged 15 – 24 years, high home delivery rates, high teenage pregnancy rates and a large proportion of pregnancies that end in abortion. Offering PPFP services at the community level could accelerate the pace towards the FP2020 goals and provide a model for replication in other states in Nigeria.
  • The project will be implemented by a consortium of 3 organisations - Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI), and Tulane University. Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI) is charged with the mandate of conducting community level mobilization activities.
Scope of Work The consultant will be expected to:
  • Track and document social mobilization activities at the state level
  • Coordinate social mobilizers for service delivery outreaches

  • Provide SBC leadership for the state demand generation team
  • Work closely with the State team lead and CCSI supervising officer in charge of the project and other PPFP team members in the state to support all aspects of implementation of the demand generation strategy
  • Support implementation of PPFP social mobilization activities as outlined in the demand generation strategy
  • Coordinate and provide technical SBC support to a team of social mobilizers within LGAs in PPFP states
  • Serve as a member of the state team on mobilization coordination and implementation
Criteria (Qualification & Experience)
  • Knowledge of the terrain and cultural nuances of the state
