Intercommunity Development Social Organisation (IDS), formally Integrated Development Services (IDS) is a voluntary, not-for-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 2004 by Peace-loving and law-abiding women and youth and incorporated with the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC/IT/No.60576) and was granted Special Consultative Status by the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2013.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Project Assistant - Conflict Prevention and Peace-building
Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Employment Type: Full-time
Summary and Responsibilities
- Supports citizens to mobilize effectively to influence policy, improve lives, and build peace.
- Conflict Prevention and peacebuilding Assistant will work with civil society to increase its credibility, visibility and effectiveness by building its capacity.
- The Project Assistant will work under the overall guidance of the Project Officer.
- The Project Assistant will report directly to the project Officer.
- Advise regularly and follow chat of communication according to the organizational organogram.
Primary Responsibilities
Technical Support-Related Functions:
- Good knowledge of targeting male and female youth in intercommunity exchanges, leadership, project oversight, and advocacy efforts to address their sense of marginalization and promote positive roles for them in the community.
- Empower women with skills and leadership roles for supporting survivors of violence, conflict mitigation and management, identifying potential VEO recruits, and engaging in civic activities.
- Conduct intra- and inter-community dialogues with religious and ethnic groups, host communities / internally displaced peoples (IDPs) (if present) to create channels for ongoing communication, promote collective action around common needs and develop trust.
- Support formal and informal conflict resolution mechanisms across communities and identify key state and national government figures to link into cohesion efforts.
- Foster creativity and talent by engaging young artists, theater groups and other performers to produce short videos, conducts social media campaigns and public engagement on the realities they experience in their communities. Protect, preserve, and promote the cultural heritage of minority groups that are the victims of or under threat of violence and violent extremism.
- Engage with local communities to increase its responsiveness to citizen needs;
- Solve community problems, engage youth in civic affairs, and provide needed services to citizens;
- Advocate for social justice, democratic reforms, human rights, and effective policies,
- Produce media, including online, radio, and television content, to promote social dialogue and tolerance; and
- Promote peaceful solutions to conflict and support peace negotiations.
Project Design and Development:
- Organizing programs and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.
- Developing new programs to support the strategic direction of the organization.
- Creating and managing long-term goals.
- Developing a budget and operating plan for the program.
- Developing an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
- Writing program funding proposals to guarantee uninterrupted delivery of services.
- Managing a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities.
- Ensuring goals are met in areas including customer satisfaction, safety, quality, and team member performance.
- Implementing and managing changes and interventions to ensure project goals are achieved.
- Meeting with stakeholders to make communication easy and transparent regarding project issues and decisions on services.
- Producing accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle.
- Analyzing program risks.
- Working on strategy with the marketing team.
Monitoring Evaluation Reporting & Learning:
- Provide support to MERL Officer(s) in assessing extent to which partners’ initiatives are achieving the set results, writing and filing of reports.
- Together with the MERL team, develop indicators and protocols for monitoring progress in implementation of program interventions and capacity building initiatives and generate the necessary progress reports.
- In liaison with the Program Manager, take leadership in tracking and reporting progression for partners and the program.
- Participate in and contribute to quarterly and other scheduled program performance review meetings.
- Participate actively in contributing to documentation of “success stories” and other anecdotal information to enhance the overall quality of performance reports to the donors.
- Share information and lessons learnt with other program staff through among others, writing of brief occasional papers for uploading into the website and internal seminars.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, annual and final program narrative reports.
Capacity Development:
- Provide technical guidance and support to the Capacity Development team on advocacy issues.
- Provide leadership in training and delivery CPP training for IDS Partners/sub grantees.
- Provide leadership in mentoring and coaching for partners through accompaniment and quarterly site visits.
- Liaise with the Program Manager in ensuring all advocacy capacity development needs for the partners are addressed.
- Prepare training materials and modules to respond to the CPP training areas identified.
Networking and Representation:
- Establish and maintain regular contact with partner organizations, and to liaise and co-ordinate with the appropriate government bodies whenever appropriate to ensure successful project progress.
- Negotiate collaboration with partner institutions and government departments in support of IDS and the project activities subject to approval from the supervisor.
- Liaise and maintain contacts with government agencies and line ministries, civil societies and private sector collaborators.
Resource Mobilization:
- Contribute to the development of IDS fund-raising strategy and annual fundraising plan.
- Participate in researching funding sources and donor trends to help position IDS ahead of major funding changes or trends.
- Contribute in development of proposals for fundraising.
Management and Implementation:
- Plan and manage the implementation of CPP works in camps and host communities and prioritized Conflict extremism activities in full consultation and co-ordination with relevant IDS staff and other agencies both governmental and non-governmental.
- Organize, with the logistics and finance departments materials and support needed for all field activities.
- Through capacity building and on-site skills transfer, build a technical team that is multi-skilled, flexible and has capacity to work autonomously. Design and develop appropriate supervisory, monitoring and evaluation systems for construction projects;
- Ensure that performance objective for CPP Assistants is set and staffs are appraised as per IDS policies and procedures;
- Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
- Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within IDS and amongst beneficiaries served by IDS.
Compliance & Ethics:
- Promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout IDS

- Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within IDS and amongst beneficiaries served by IDS.
Compliance & Ethics:
- Promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout IDS
- As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of IDS and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.
Information and Co-ordination:
- Provide regular updates to supervisor and team on progress, priorities and constraints – verbally and in writing.
- Represent IDS to private, governmental and non-governmental groups as and when needed.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Conflict Studies, International Relations or any other related field. A Post graduate degree will be an added advantage.
Professional Qualifications:
- Professional training in Project Development Cycle or related fields.
Relevant Experience:
- At least 3 years’ relevant work experience in working with civil society organizations involved in advocacy for good governance, peace building and conflict management and/or natural resources management.
Essential Competencies:
- Demonstrated interest in development work.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and report writing skills.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team player in a multi-disciplinary team setting.
- Result-oriented.
- Willingness to travel frequently.
