  • Andela’s Partner Engineering department is charged with delivering high value and quality software engineering services for our Clients (we call them Partners).
  • Our core delivery model is embedded teams­­­ of software engineers who are remote and distributed. As such, you’ll need to be an expert in enabling talented people to deliver their best, providing the support and quality control needed to help them through challenges, and developing the processes, protocols and procedures necessary to scale with our Partners.
  • We are seeking a seasoned Technology and Engineering Services leader who is passionate about building the next generation of technology leaders in Africa and who knows what it takes to lead Engineering teams to successfully deliver for Partners.
  • As Senior Director, you are a member of the Partner Engineering leadership group responsible for shaping the vision and strategies for the department.  You will shape how we leverage new and emerging programming languages, frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and scalable architecture to deliver world class technology for our partners.
  • Although you interface with every aspect of Andela, your core stakeholders are Andela’s Partners, Engineering Talent and our Customer Success teams, and so you’re simultaneously the voice of each to various stakeholders. You are constantly asking yourself:
    • How do I better ensure that Andela’s Partners are wowed with the quality, engagement and productivity of their Andela Engineering teams?
    • How do I better ensure that Andela’s Engineering teams are prepared, supported, and continue to grow as they deliver for our Partners?
  • You are eager for the challenge of molding and shaping an exceptional engineering service organization. You know how to think - and act - big, while holding a strong moral compass in everything you do.
Key Responsibilities
  • Meet or exceed quarterly net churn and expansion targets through delivery leadership, oversight for assigned remote and distributed teams delivering software engineering services for our partners.
  • Engage directly with key strategic and growth partners to drive delivery and excellence including how we supplement/evolve systems, processes and capabilities as needed.
  • Design and enforce best practices for how your team builds trusted relationships and influence decision makers on matters related to our partners engineering roadmaps.
  • Manage your team’s engineering delivery objectives, priorities, trade offs, risks and escalations working closely with your Customer Success and Account Management counterparts.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage new and emerging engineering delivery capabilities to drive improved value, quality and speed for our teams.
  • Collaborate with the Sales, Customer Success, Staffing and members of the Partner Engineering department in multiple countries to staff and support our Partners. This may include leading in the origination and selling of new and existing Partner engagements.
  • Lead OKR and career planning objectives for your direct reports and their teams, ensuring compliance of check-ins and performance reviews are met.
  • Provide actionable feedback to Andela’s leadership team on all aspects of the organization for continuous scale and improvement.
Qualifications
  • Four ­year degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Over 12 years experience leading remote Engineering delivery teams in software development, technology consulting and/or software product management
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Client Relationship Management and/or Sales.
  • Proven ability to build, manage and grow a team-oriented and high-performing organization.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills and can work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.

  • Willingness to travel periodically between Andela’s centers and our Partners’s offices.

  • This is anything but your standard “HR Business Partner” role. ​You’ll be the leader and guardian of our engineering population. ​ From performance and productivity, community to culture, this is a challenging role with high expectations.
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of meaningful experience in a strategic HR Business Partner role in a challenging and changing environment.
  • Your knowledge and experience are both broad and deep from employment law and best practices to talent management. Experience with design of engagement strategies preferred.

  • As a Senior Software Engineer, you will primarily work as a Lead Engineer for one of Andela’s clients. Andela Senior Engineers are skilled at writing complex applications, have a deep understanding of application lifecycles, databases and services. They are passionate about guidance and mentorship to more junior developers.
Key Responsibilities The specific responsibilities of the Senior Software Engineer position include:
  • Interfacing with your client to understand their business, goals and visions for products being supported by an Andela Team
  • Performing high quality work that not only meets the need of the client, but surpasses it.
  • If you are managing a team:
    • Ensuring that our engineers are able to understand the business context and value of their tasks, as well as how it impacts users
    • Prioritizing the work that your team is responsible for to ensure that you’re always working on the highest value work that helps your clients meet their objectives
    • Working with our engineers to decompose high level stories into smaller, specific tasks and provide high level design support to help them understand how to solve specific coding challenges
    • Provide technical guidance and oversight to ensure that the work delivered is in accordance with the technical standards of your client
    • Encouraging a collaborative team environment
    • Regularly reporting the status of your team both to your client as well as senior members of Andela’s Partner Engineering Department.
Qualifications & Characteristics As the ideal candidate for this role you:
  • Are active in the technology ecosystem in your city ex: you organize meet ups, speak at conferences and are active on github
  • Are able to pass our Tech Skills Assessment
  • May have a four-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited university
  • Have at least 4 years of experience working in software development
  • Is proficient ideally in ANY TWO of the following stacks and/or experience in:
    • Javascript (React)
    • Javascript (Angular)
    • Javascript (Node)
    • Python (Django/Flask)
    • PHP (Lumen/Laravel)
    • Java
    • iOS (Swift/Objective C)
    • Android (Java/Kotlin)

  • Have experience leading technical teams using Agile methodologies;
