  • Creative is seeking an Assessment Specialist for an anticipated donor-funded project in Nigeria aiming to enable more effective state and non-state systems to deliver foundational skills to all children
  • The Assessment Specialist will work closely with the technical teams to provide technical guidance and support field activities to improve teachers’ ability to use continuous assessment and assess their progress; improve reading standards and benchmarks; and strengthen school monitoring practices
  • S/he will also work closely with the Ministry of Education (MOE) in the areas of student assessment.
Reporting & Supervision:
  • This position reports to the Assessment and Standards Advisor.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Design and facilitate training and other professional development activities to expand and improve Grades 1 to 4 and Grades 5 to 8 Mother Tongue and English teachers’ use of continuous assessment;
  • Use assessment data to guide changes in instruction and other educational practices;
  • Provide leadership in the development of simple school report cards for use with school communities;
  • Support the adaptation, design, and administration of the Early Grade Reading Assessment;
  • Support the MOE partner organizations in the review and revision of reading standards and benchmarks for grades 1 to 4;
  • Integrate reading standards and benchmarks and relevant student assessment-related content into the project-related workshops, trainings and other events and ensure its wide dissemination;
  • Ensure synergy among the project ’s technical teams in the areas of continuous assessment, school monitoring, and standards and benchmark-setting;
  • Lead the preparation of protocols and Terms of References for assessment needs;
  • Collaborate with MOE and partners in the area of student assessment and in result sharing.
  • Conduct periodic documentation and/or case studies to measure impact of activities;
  • Maintain an up-to-date catalog of all assessment results and tools in electronic and hard copy of data files;
  • Support in the preparation of quarterly and other regular reports; and
  • Other tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Educational Qualification in Assessment, or related fields;
  • At least 10 years of general experience and five (5) years of experience in measurement, evaluation and student assessment;
  • Expert knowledge in reading instruction required;
  • Demonstrated experience in measurement, evaluation and assessment report writing;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are required;
  • Knowledgeable about USAID Rules and Regulations, previous experience working on USAID-funded projects is preferred;
  • Professional proficiency and fluency in written and spoken English; and
  • Basic Information and Communication Technology skills for data collection, analysis and report writing.

  • Creative is seeking a Pre-service Coordinator for an anticipated donor-funded project in Nigeria aiming to enable more effective state and non-state systems to deliver foundational skills to all children
  • The Pre-service Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating program activities among stakeholders including universities and relevant Government of Nigeria entities, ensuring key teaching modules are included in curricula and policies are adapted accordingly.
Reporting & Supervision:
  • The Pre-service Coordinator reports to the Teacher Education Advisor.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Work with select universities and relevant Government of Nigeria entities in the implementation of a sustainable and scalable pre-service teacher education program;
  • Coordinate with universities to incorporate pre-service modules into curricula, including supporting case building for policy and resource modifications where necessary;
  • Organize and participate in training programs;
  • Collaborate effectively with Ministry of Education on training activities while building capacity;
  • Work with university faculty on teaching methodology classes and pre-service teacher mentoring programs;
  • Manage the outputs and performance of state-level personnel; and
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Education or related Pedagogically oriented field;
  • At least four (4) years of experience in work specifically to improve education programming directed to rural, ethno-linguistic underserved populations;
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of teacher professional development;
  • Proven experience developing effective training materials;
  • Prior experience with supporting family/community engagement of education outcomes;
  • Professional proficiency in written English; and
  • Fluency in spoken English and other relevant local languages.

  • Creative is seeking a Mathematics Specialist for an anticipated donor-funded project in Nigeria aiming to enable more effective state and non-state systems to deliver foundational skills to all children
  • The Mathematics Specialist provides overall technical oversight and guidance to the activity’s support to improved mathematics instruction, including mathematics standards, benchmarks, curriculum and assessment systems, and learning environment.
Reporting & Supervision:
  • This position reports to the Curriculum Development Advisor.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership in the development of standards and benchmarks in mathematics
  • Supervises the development and testing of mathematics curriculum and instruction
  • Supports the national scale-up planning for the mathematics curriculum;
  • Supports assessment (formative and summative) of mathematics skill development of students
  • Ensures that activities and approaches across geographic areas are complementary and equitable, including under-served populations in need of inclusive education; and
  • Liaises with government representatives and technicians on technical matters and bears ultimate responsibility for ensuring that children in activity-supported schools achieve improved outcomes in mathematics.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Education with a specialty in early grade mathematics or another pedagogically-oriented specialty;
  • At least four (4) years of experience in work specifically to improve evidence-based early grade mathematics programming; preferably directed to rural, ethno-linguistic under-served populations;
  • At least four (4) additional years of experience improving educational quality in developing countries is required;
  • At least five (5) years of experience in Africa is highly desired;
  • Prior proven experience with the development and implementation of evidence-based early grade mathematics materials (and preferably in local languages), training programs, classroom monitoring protocols, and tests and assessments required; EGMA experience (preferred); and
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in local languages is highly desired.
