Medecins du Monde (MdM) is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable populations, the world over, including France. It seeks to stimulate voluntary commitment from doctors, other health care providers, and from those whose expertise in other fields is needed for its activities, to enlist all competent support required for the achievement of its projects, and to seek at all times to encourage close working relationships with populations in its care. We are recruiting to to fill the position below:     Job Title: Pharmacist Coordinator (M/F) Location: Maiduguri, Borno Fixed Term contract: 6 months Starting Date: March, 2019 Background For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in healthforall policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations. MdM currently works in more than 40 countries across all continents where it focuses on 5 priority areas: emergency and crisis, sexual and reproductive health, harm reduction, migrants and displaced populations (health rights), health and environment. Violence in the northeast of Nigeria has caused massive displacement and at the same time restricted movement. It has disrupted food supplies, seriously hindered access to basic services, and limited agricultural activities. Since February 2016, as humanitarian access is increasing, extreme food insecurity and malnutrition conditions have been revealed in Borno state. As of 3rd August, 1.82 million people are estimated to be displaced within/from of Borno state, 1.63 million of them actually stayed within the state. Most of them (more than 1.2m) are living in Maiduguri with the host community and others in formal and informal camps. MdM has started since October 2016 an emergency response to this crisis, in the Borno state. In 2018, MdM strategy in Borno state focuses on improving access to:

  • Free comprehensive primary healthcare services
  • Quality nutrition treatment for malnourished children
  • Mental health and psychosocial support
  • Lifesaving medical care, holistic referral services for survivors of gender based violence
Job Description Under the supervision of the medical coordinator, you are responsible for the quality of medicines and medical material and you are in charge of the implementation and followup of qualitative medical supply to the MdM programme in Nigeria. More specifically, your responsibilities are to: Team Management:
  • Organize weekly/monthly work plan for the pharmacy team and submit to the medical coordinator
  • Ensure the pharmacists give proper support and supervision of the performance of drug dispensers at field level
  • Conduct the performance appraisal of the pharmacists
  • Participate in the recruitment process of the pharmacist team and drug dispensers
  • Provide technical supervision of pharmacists and drug dispensers
Management of Pharmacy and Medical Stock:
  • Ensure the proper stock management of items, temperature and cold chain at warehouse in Maiduguri and sub office, with frequent visits to the field
  • Ensure the storage of drugs by donor
  • Ensure the proper elaboration and reception of international orders and the request and reception of donations
  • Ensure that monthly inventory is properly conducted at warehouse and satellite pharmacies
  • Ensure the management of expired/damaged drugs according to Nigerian National protocols
  • Ensure that field drug supply is achieved according to the needs and on time
  • Ensure that field teams store and transport drugs from and to the field in proper conditions
  • Support logistics team on drugs importation or local purchases procedures
  • Ensure the collection and evaluation of the weekly /monthly drugs consumption and conduct the analysis of drugs and consumable needs
  • Ensure that pharmacists anticipate the shortage of drugs, overstock and preexpired and take the prompt action.
Technical Support and Capacity Building:
  • Train and support medical supervisors and pharmacists on stock management, consumption, drugs order requests and receptions (national or international orders), donations from partners and reporting
  • Build capacity of national staff with the objective of nationalizing the position of pharmacist coordinator
  • Provide training on reporting
  • Support the medical and logistics department on pharmacy orders
  • Participate in the organization of drugs protocols training for MdM staff and/or MoH health workers
  • Train and technically support the medical department team, including health program coordinator and medical supervisors on specific topics
  • Perform regular field visits to control and supervise the pharmacy activities
Communication and Reporting:
  • Communicate with partners and promote regular pharmacist meetings
  • Ensure the centralization of all drugs information available on the mission and contribute to monthly analysis
  • Contribute to donor reporting by providing relevant data and indicators

Job Description
  • Under the direct responsibility of the general coordinator, you are in charge of the overall Human Resources (HR) Management of the projects in order to guarantee rigorous and transparent procedures and to fulfill the objectives of the mission in the respect of MdM guidelines.
More specifically, your responsibilities are to:
  • Contribute to the development of organizational charts
  • Update the classification and salary grid and ensure its strict implementation on the bases
  • Develop job profiles templates in the respect of the classification grid
  • Develop contract staffs templates and ensure the strict implementation at field level
  • Develop HR tools and supervise the implementation by all field teams
  • Participate to the definition of HR needs in terms of writing project proposals and any amendments

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in human resources

  • Under the supervision of the medical coordinator, you are ensuring the quality of mental health and psychosocial services (MHPSS) activities.
Job Responsibilities More specifically, your responsibilities are to:
  • Implement sustainability strategy, ensuring community engagement, mobilization and capacity development in an effort to hand over services to the local community
  • Contribute to develop and implement integrated referrals mechanism
  • Propose adaptations regarding the program if needed
  • Establish systematic data collection for reports
  • Coordinate with the medical coordinator and the gender based violence coordinator to address the protection issues for the beneficiaries
  • Manage the MHPSS team, evaluate their capacities and train them
  • Draft and update job descriptions
  • Conduct interviews with the MHPSS staff candidates and actively participate in the recruitment process
  • Participate to the coordination meeting and represent MdM in relevant external meetings
  • Develop the strategy and mechanisms to integrate a mental health and psychosocial support into MdM programs
