The IRC has been present in Nigeria since 2012 when the organization responded to flooding in Kogi state. In February 2014 the IRC moved into Adamawa State in NE Nigeria to provide humanitarian interventions through a multi-sectoral, integrated approach for conflict affected populations. IRC Nigeria now operates a country office in Abuja and field offices in Mubi and Yola of Adamawa State, Maiduguri and Monguno of Borno state and Damatru of Yobe State. Currently, IRC Nigeria implements programs primary health care, nutrition, environmental health, women’s protection and empowerment, protection, child protection, education, food security & livelihoods.

Job Overview / Summary

  • The intern will work cohesively with education team to implement educate a child (EAC) project here in Maiduguri, Borno State.
  • Essentially, the intern will support the team in collected and validating data as it relates to the education project implementation.
  • The intern will work and maintain good working relationship with education stakeholders - including the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), State Agency for Mass Education (SAME) and School Base Management Committee (SBMCs).

Major Responsibilities
Program Management, Technical Quality, and Strategy:

  • Support in attendance collection, collation, and validation.
  • Asist M&E Officer to validate distribution data using distribution register.
  • Support the M&E Officer in supervision of data collection and entry
  • Support Enumerators/Research Assistants trainings
  • Support in carrying out documents photocopying, scanning and other office clerical works.
  • Conduct Monitoring and Supervision to project sites – including activities of LFs
  • Assist to track the record of Teacher Classroom Observations (TCO) submitted by each EO every month.
  • Assist the M&E Officers in validation of learner’s attendance.
  • Support the collection of Teacher Learning Cycle (TLC) and Facilitator Learning Cycle (FLC) meeting attendance.
  • Support in achieving and documenting all activity Means of Verification (MoV)
  • Any other duties or tasked delegated by the Education Manager and M&E officer.

Research, Learning and Analysis:

  • The position will be engaged in data collection and analysis for proper use of data collected to ensure appropriate decision-making process

Coordination & Representation:

  • The Position will be working closely with key education personnel including – State Basic Management Committee (SBMC), Community Coalition (CC) and learning facilitators and tutors.

  • Position Reports to: M&E Officer
  • Indirect/Technical Reporting: Education M&E Manager
  • Position directly Supervises: N/A

Key Internal Contacts:

  • Country Program: All Staff
  • Region/Global: N/A

Key External Contacts: 

  • This position will require close collaboration with Education stakeholders at all levels and stakeholders in community of project implementation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized College/Institutions
  • Ability to Travel: % of time if applicable.

Work Experience:

  • 1 year’ experience in enumerator, including data management. NYSC service year might be considered for experience.
  • Previous experience in supervision of data collection and data cleaning.
  • Computer literate with significant knowledge/experience using Microsoft word and excel.

  • English, Hausa and Kanuri.
