Job Title: HSE Officer

Location: Oniru, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports To: General Manager/Project Manager

Job Summary

  • The HSE Officer will oversee all health, safety, and environmental activities within the organization to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and promote a culture of safety on project sites.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of HSE principles, risk management, and regulatory requirements, with proven experience in the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and programs in line with company and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Ensure the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) on project sites.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with HSE regulations, including obtaining and maintaining necessary certifications and permits.
  • Support the development of emergency response plans and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Provide training and awareness programs for staff and subcontractors on health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports with corrective and preventive measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, including inspections, incidents, and training sessions.

Requirements

  • Candidates should possess an HND / B.Sc in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent are mandatory.
  • Membership in a recognized professional body (e.g., ISPON, IOSH) is an added advantage.

Abilities and Skills Required:

  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and best practices in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to influence and educate stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Compensation
Salary is subject to negotiation based on experience and qualifications.
