Hausa Speaking Consultancy Job at Girl Rising

Girl Rising is a global campaign for girls’ education that uses storytelling; including the Girl Rising feature film, to raise awareness about the power of educating girls to transform societies.
The film tells the stories of nine girls from nine countries around the world and the formidable obstacles they overcome in pursuit of an education. Girl Rising storytelling makes the barriers that girls face to education personal- inspiring action among viewers.
The Girl Rising ENGAGE project in Nigeria is a public-private partnership funded by USAID, which uses the film, translated and dubbed into Hausa, as a central communications tool. The partnership brings together the best in public and private sector resources and know-how toward closing the gender gaps that persist in education and securing a better future for girls.

Job Title:  Tool Development Consultant (Proficiency in Hausa)

Girl Rising is working in Nigeria to mobilize and engage men, women, and school-aged youth through grassroots community initiatives to take action to address barriers and social norms impeding access to quality education for girls.

ENGAGE Nigeria will hire a consultant to work with the Girl Rising team on the tool development process.

Scope of Work:
Girl Rising materials will be translated into Hausa, the local language, for appropriate impact.

Materials To Be Used For Community Engagement And Outreach
The existing Girl Rising discussion guide and curriculum will be used as a source for creating Nigeria specific materials suitable for use by civil society organizations, teachers, school management and local community. The materials will include guides and training materials on how to use the Girl Rising Film and tools to promote discussions and action around inclusive education aimed at gender inclusion and gender awareness.
The materials should not be too text heavy and should be designed so that they can easily be reprinted and disseminated again and again.
The community engagement materials will include a facilitator's guide to using the materials in communities and schools. This guide is intended to help facilitators involve community members and/or children in a progressive, meaningful manner. The guide should include:
  • Discussion guides suitable for use with youth groups, parents and community groups.
  • Relatable role model stories.
  • Games, exercises, role pay scenarios and other tools that exhibit creative ways to engage audiences around role model behavior and gender sensitization.
The materials should provide a structure for “how” to use the video materials – including pre-viewing discussion questions or activities, viewing activities (e.g pause and discuss a particular point where relevant etc. ) and post viewing discussion and activities. The post viewing discussion and activities are very important as they can lead to or should offer suggestions for positive action. For example, a community group may decide that they want to organize and carry out an enrollment drive, map household labor for their sons and daughters and examine the implications for study time/homework time/exam pre/ getting to school on time etc. The materials should not be too text heavy and should be designed so that they can easily be reprinted and disseminated again and again.
