We provide humanitarian assistance in disasters and work for long-term development in local communities and societies. In order to address the root causes of poverty, we advocate for just decisions by public authorities, businesses and religious leaders.

NCA has a presence in Nigeria to respond to the Humanitarian crisis in Northeast Nigeria. NCA has its core competencies in Gender Based Violence and Water Sanitation and Hygiene. NCA has its strengths in works and invest in local partners ensures building their capacities are built from the onset of response, in order to enable them to have the capacity to respond in a long-term intervention including recovery and development.

Job Title: GBV (Economic Empowerment) Officer

Locations: Shani - Borno & Bade - Yobe
Report to: GBV Manager
Duty Station: Shani (Borno State) & Bade (Yobe State)

General Description

  • The GBV (Economic Empowerment) Officer will oversee the implementation of GBV program – particularly, providing support to the implementation of the GBV skills acquisition program including soap ( liquid & soap), Menstrual Health Management(MHM) production, formation and running of VSLA and cooperative groups, managing Women and Girls safe spaces and coordination of effective groups formation, gender discussions, training in business skills and formation of Income Generating Activities ( IGAs) in the field.

Job Roles & Responsibilities

  • Leads in the Identification of women and girls at risks in coordination with existing leaderships and GBV Sub sectors and partners in the field in line with approved selection criteria.
  • Leads in the day-to-day operations and management of the Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS).
  • Leads the facilitation of educational, psychosocial, and recreational activities for women and girls in the WGSS.
  • Ensures that WGSS activities are conducted in agreement with the WGSS rules, guidelines and are culturally appropriate.
  • Leads in recruitment, supervision, and management of community-based artisans, WGSS volunteers in the field location.
  • Supervision of community-based artisan conducting soap production and MHM trainings for women and girls at the WGSS.
  • Coordinates with local stakeholder and community leaders in the field locations in mobilization of men to actively participate in GBV program activities such as trainings, male engagements, gender discussions in the field location.
  • Develope program reports and coordinate team meetings to review work plans, challenges and solutions and provide feedback where necessary.
  • In coordination with the logistics team, ensure program supplies are available.
  • Actively address challenges in program implementation and propose solutions to GBV Manager.
  • Conducts regular monitoring of field activities, collecting data and mentoring & coaching to artisans and VSLA (Cooperative) group members.
  • Ensures timely formation of women Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and cooperative, and monitor the implementation of the business skills training.
  • Participates actively role in building up women and girls’ capacity in effectively running of VSLA and cooperative groups and ensure resilient and sustainability of Income Generating activities initiatives if the field location.
  • Ensures all NCA GBV Skills acquisition activities (soap production, MHM training, formation and running of VSLA and cooperative groups, Gender discussion group series and business skills) are implemented on time and with high quality at the field site.
  • Works in very close collaboration with the GBV manager to plan and implement the VSLA, cooperative and Gender discussion series and working with Some male significant others( SOME)

Qualifications & Experience
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or related field (Gender Studies, Public Health, Social Work, Humanities, Law, Psychology, Sociology).
  • 2-4 years’ experience with minimum of 2 years relevant experience in GBV in emergencies, women and empowerment, skills acquisition, and gender programming.

Essential:

  • Strong commitment to human rights, gender equality, and understanding of issues surrounding violence against women and girls.
  • Commitment to and understanding of NCA core values and principles.
  • Must adhere to and encourage PSEA and NCA Code of Conduct and ensure timely reporting.
  • Strong belief in and commitment to human rights and gender equality.
  • Demonstrated competency to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Resilient, flexible and gender sensitive.
  • A person with strong analytical, problem-solving skills, good time management and planning skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, fluency in local language.
  • Strong computer skills (Word and Excel)
  • Willingness to travel to field sites frequently and, strong, experience working in GBVprograms, managing WGSS and IDP peri- Urban settings.
  • Ability to work/communicate effectively in a culturally diverse organization.
  • Experience working with community groups, community leaders and women empowerment initiative.
  • A person with knowledge of VSLA model, cooperative, savings and credit schemes, or livelihoods programming.
  • Persons with skills in soap (Liquid & soap) production, sewing/ tailoring are encouraged to apply.
