Global Village Healthcare Initiative for Africa (GHIV Africa) is a Non-governmental, Non-for profit humanitarian/Developmental organization which started in 2014. We deliver assistance and protection to affected populations before, during and after crisis situations.

GHIV Africa was founded to mitigate the health deficit in Africa and to provide all forms of assistance leading to improved quality of life. The organization is equally poised to support the delivery of healthcare services at the doorsteps of every African village by bridging the gap between primary health care delivery and tertiary health care services through a robust referral system. We provide aid to the most vulnerable population regardless of their religion, race, gender and or political affiliation. Our decisions as an organization are not based on political, economic or religious interest but solely on needs of the affected population.

Background

  • GHIV Africa since moving to Northeast Nigeria in 2019 has been implementing humanitarian and developmental interventions in Health, Education, WASH, Livelihoods and Protection. These interventions have directly targeted over 6000 vulnerable children, women, girls and boys as well as people with disabilities.
  • Determined to expand her interventions to reach more vulnerable groups in the conflict area, GHIV Africa will be implementing an Education project in 3 LGAs of Bama, Gwoza, and Damboa in Borno state in partnership with UN OCHA with funding from the Nigerian Humanitarian Funds (NHF) first standard allocation.
  • In order to successfully implement this project, GHIV Africa is looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Education Officer in her Maiduguri office for a one year during of the project.
  • The incumbent will be in charge of ensuring the implementing the project in Bama, Gwoza, and Dambua LGAs, he/she stationed in Maiduguri and have frequent travels (80%) to the three (3) LGAs on a weekly Basis, he/she will work directly with the Community Education Assistants based in those three locations. The Education Officer will report to the Head of Programs on a weekly Basis

Job Summary

  • Directly Implement the project with the assistance of Assistant Education Officer
  • Harmonization of all the activities report in all the three (3) LGAs to the Head of Programs on a monthly basis.
  • Responsible for the recruitment to train community volunteer teachers in the project locations.
  • Identification and training of formal and informal teachers at the project locations.
  • He/she will be responsible for supervising, training, and building the capacity of the education Assistants.
  • Document and compile lessons learn and support the MEAL Officer on assessments, Monitoring and Evaluation of Project activities.
  • The Education Officer will also be responsible for the project assessment, analysis, design, capacity building.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Assist, supervise the activities carried out by the Assistants and send weekly reports and consolidated monthly report.
  • Responsible for the reporting of EiE 5Ws on a monthly basis.
  • Mmanage, maintain, and update the project data base
  • Collect and send weekly reports and monthly consolidated reports
  • Collect and compile lesons learnt and challenges from field locations.
  • Support on project assessments, analysis and support the MEAL department of MEAL process and activities.
  • Design, and carry out capacity building for deep field staff and beneficiaries (community volunteer teachers and formal school teachers).
  • Train, supervise, and technically support Education Assistants
  • Observe and record trends and situation of project location in terms of gaps and persons in Needs for future programming
  • Train SBMCs and CECs on resource mobilization, management, COVID19 prevention, safety and security of schools for children access to quality, inclusive and protective education in their communities.
  • Conduct monthly meeting with SBMCs and CECs for need to support the education intervention and support coordination/management within the school environment, this will serve as a platform to discuss and address issues within the school environment.
  • Conduct workshops in all the locations with community structures and education authorities on safety and security of schools.
  • Provide weekly updates on challenges, progress to the head of programs in all locations of implementation.
  • Collaborate with SUBEB and LEA focal persons in the three (3) locations of implementation to carry out selection, and training and workshops for teachers and community volunteer teachers.
  • Collaborate with school base structures, formal education authorities, and non-formal education authorities to carry out distribution learning kits for children in both formal and non-formal school.
  • In case of school closure, plan/design, and implement radio learning programs for continuation of learning in all the project locations.
  • Establish and or revive SBMCs and CECs in all the locations of our projects and apply strategies to strengthen them to be more functional and strong.
  • Carry out any relevant activities or tasks that you are call upon to.

Technical Expertise, Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies

  • University Education or equivalent in Education, Social Science, Social Work, Psychology or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience in education in emergencies.
  • Have worked before directly with children and vulnerable population and survivals
  • Good knowledge of teaching pedagogy and usage in emergency settings, emergency preparedness, and relief management.
  • Familiar with Education manuals like the Sphere stands and Minimum standard handbook for EiE
  • Experience working in emergencies context
  • Must be a team player.
  • Good knowledge of the EiE Working Group, and understand the education situation of the northeast Nigeria.
  • Good knowledge of Child Safeguarding, PSEA Policies, and the concept of Do No Harm, and good at working with children and vulnerable people especial in emergency settings.

Salary
N150,000 - N170,000 / month.
