Communications Manager at the Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF)


The Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF) is a not-for-profit firm established in December 2013. The organization was established to improve the quality of decision-making and execution in the health and social sectors. HSDF supports key stakeholders at all government and private sector levels to achieve measurable and sustainable results.

Job Title: Communications Manager

Location: Nigeria (This role is open to interested individuals within and outside of Nigeria)
Employment Type: Full-time
Reporting To: Chief Operating Officer

Role Summary

  • We are seeking for a Communications Manager/Expert who has at least 8years of communications experience, covering areas such as internal and external communications, content writing, knowledge management, and donor/stakeholder communications.
  • The Communications Managerwill lead the development and implementation of short and long-term communication strategies (corporate, programmatic and technical) and plans of HSDF and will support the Organization’s communication plan and external relations, to create and drive a consistent brand and identity strategy, globally.
  • Finally, the Communications Specialist will build internal capacity and system to assure the quality of written and visual presentation and communication.

Job Responsibilities
Communications Strategy and Management:

  • Develop and implement an integrated, organization-wide strategic communications plan to broaden awareness of HSDF’s brand and reputation across key stakeholder audiences.
  • Develop and implement a CSR program, managing communications logistics for organizational events and ensuring maximum coverage and reporting.
  • Collaborates with the management team to promote HSDF's capabilities, resources, research, publications, and other public awareness efforts.
  • Ensures that the appropriate tools, systems, staffing, and procedures are put in place to properly and reasonably support HSDF's internal and external communications.
  • Develops and puts in place communications metrics and evaluation systems to assess and report on the achievement of Communications goals and objectives.

Internal and External Communications:

  • Oversees corporate communications and branding in various platforms such as social media, website, intranet, corporate newsletters, planned publications and papers, industry magazines, special projects, and assignments, etc.
  • Assists executive leadership in developing presentations, speeches, and other important corporate messages.
  • Lead content creation and drive strategy to increase engagement on HSDF's social media accounts, website and intranet.
  • Monitor, report and present on online engagement analytics (web, email, social media, earned media). Leverage key engagement metrics across platforms to optimize content, messaging and distributions.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of the corporate website and intranet, including methods to deliver message, ease of navigation, and clarity of information; ensures that all content is current and relevant.

Knowledge Management:

  • Identify and drive the adoption of the best knowledge management practices and leverage existing technology, platforms and skillsets to ensure all HSDF knowledge management needs are met. Supports all Teams in maximizing utility of existing systems and information.
  • Participates and oversees the writing, production, design, and distribution of a wide variety of publication materials, including proposals, reports, brochures, fact sheets, one-pagers, position papers, slide decks, and other materials, and oversee the quality assurance of these materials.
  • Create and manage a central repository for technical, operational, and programmatic tools, systems, policies, and other relevant documents, with clearly defined policies on access and use, both internally and externally.
  • Working with team and program leads, identify and develop key operations research activities to aid the optimization of data and program activities for the publication of technical and peer-reviewed material for both internal and external audiences across platforms including the HSDF website.
  • Establish an Internal and External Review board and system to facilitate the development and publication of peer-reviewed publication
  • Where necessary, organize technical writing training and support for nominated and interested staff seeking to/required to publish technical material at different levels (conference papers, journal publications, policy briefs, op-eds).

Qualifications
The requirements listed below represent the minimum level of knowledge, skills and/or ability required to successfully perform this job.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Law, English, Communications, Information Technology, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Psychology, or any other related field. A Master’s Degree in Communications-related or Public Health-related field is an added advantage
  • 8+ years of cognate experience of which 5 must be in supervisory/middle management capacity.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing communications strategies and campaigns.
  • Proven experience in leading a team, coordinating and/or providing support to cross-functional project teams
  • Having published articles and journals is an added advantage.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Expert knowledge and hands-on ability in corporate communications, knowledge management, content development, social media, SEO, internal communications, public relations, etc.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills (framing, grammar/spelling, editing, proofreading), with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate diplomatically and professionally with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
  • Demonstrates creativity and resourcefulness, with the ability to identify and utilize innovative ways to communicate and engage audiences through a variety of avenues.
  • Is flexible and a self-starter, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while also being highly detail-oriented with an attention to quality.
  • Possesses strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Proven results in managing social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) and analytics technologies to engage a diverse audience.
  • Superior ability in health and/or science writing and communications that are customary for external publications is strongly desired.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and/or HTML required.
