The BBC Media Action is looking for interested/motivated candidates to join the Team as;

Job Title: Producer (Radio Drama)


The position is Abuja based. The Contract duration is for one year with possibility of renewal subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The start date is February/March 2014 with a probation period of 3 months for each of the position.

Job Purpose
The Producer will create, design, plan and produce programmes on agreed themes. Facilitate script writing, editing and production using and developing appropriate mechanisms and systems while ensuring compliance with established procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, organise and oversee the activities of writers, actors, directors, sound engineers, assistant producers and other personnel throughout the production process for a radio drama, including contracting, logistics, scheduling, research, writing, recording, and editing.
  • Ensure that all scripts and recordings meet project objectives and are in line with BEG Editorial values and standards, by working with script writers in developing story outlines and editing final drafts and working with directors in rehearsals and recordings.
  • Coordinate with other departments as appr4riate to ensure that production outputs are meeting project objectives, drawing on research findings, informing training, and being distributed on time.
  • Monitor and ensure that expenses are in compliance with production budget.
  • Prepare operational reports;
  • Perform army other duties that may be assigned.
Professional Experience and Skills
  • Production background and experience, preferably in the area of radio drama, developing scripts and coordinating sc riptwriting processes
  • Possess ability to analyse and critically evaluate editorial content, identifying strengths and weaknesses in programme content and ways to improve it
  • Experience managing a team and coordinating multiple roles to deliver project outputs on time and in budget.
  • Proven organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be well versed in the use of the computer;
  • Evidence of imagination and an enthusiasm for generating new ideas, particularly those with the widest possible audience appeal
  • Knowledge of latest production -related technology and techniques, particularly for radio recording.
  • Strong understanding of the role of communications in development.
Academic/Professional Qualification
  • A good first degree in Theatre Arts, Mass Communication, Communication Arts, English or the Social Sciences or arty other relevant field.
  • An additional certificate/Training in scriptwriting/editing programme production, directing will be an added advantage;

Job Title: Assistant Producer (Radio Drama) - 2 Positions
The position is Abuja based. The contract duration is for one year with possibility of renewal subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The start date is February/March 2014 with a probation period of 3 months for each of the position.

Job Purpose
The Assistant Producer will support the work of the Production Department by working directly with the Producer (Radio Drama) to deliver on specific messaging and themes required by the funding partners.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the producer and production department in all activities required to produce and distribute radio drama outputs on time and within budget
  • Coordinate, conduct, and communicate the results of content research on key themes and messages to ensure that all content information is accurate, clear, and unambiguous across languages
  • Help to identify, contract, and liaise with contributors, interviewers, script -writers, actors, and other freelancers involved in developing and producing the radio drama.
  • Support the create a process to contributing to the development of story lines and scripts, ensuring that content is both engaging and in line with project objective and lives up to be editorial values and standards.
  • Perform any other duty as may be required.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience required
