Associate Director, Public Affairs at The END Fund


The END Fund is the world's leading collaborative philanthropic investment vehicle dedicated to controlling and eliminating neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). NTDs are parasitic and bacterial infectious diseases - including intestinal worms, river blindness, trachoma, schistosomiasis and lymphatic filariasis - that affect over 1.7 billion people globally. The END Fund's vision is to ensure people can live healthy and prosperous lives free of the risk of NTDs and has set out to accomplish this by; Mobilizing and investing resources for maximum impact, Advocating for innovative, integrated and cost-effective NTD programs and Facilitating philanthropic and private sector engagement to end these diseases.

Job Title: Associate Director, Public Affairs

Location: Nigeria or Kenya
Reports To: Senior Director, Public Affairs
Travel Requirements: Up to 20% (once travel safely resumes)

About the End Fund’S Efforts to Advance Disease-Endemic Country Ownership and Sustainability of Ntd Programs

  • The Public Affairs team supports the advancement of financial and in-kind support to programs by local stakeholders in disease-endemic countries.
  • With a primary focus on stakeholder engagement, coalition building and partnerships, the Public Affairs team works closely with the END Fund’s Programs team to drive country-level resource mobilization and advocacy tailored to our key stakeholder groups. 
  • Reporting to the Senior Director, Public Affairs, the Associate Director is a new role that will support the delivery of the afore-mentioned remit of the Public Affairs team as we seek to optimize the END Fund’s performance and drive projected expansion of the organisation’s impact on the African continent. 

The Opportunity

  • The END Fund is seeking a resourceful, mission-driven stakeholder engagement specialist to support the team’s growth through implementation of strategies for effective outreach and relationship management with private sector organisations and other potential partners, including cultivating and sustaining relationships with these organisations, business leaders, high net-worth individuals, philanthropists and foundations.
  • The Associate Director, Public Affairs, will support the development of partnerships to foster greater local ownership and financing of NTD programs at the community level, within local and national government institutions, and among disease-endemic countries’  private and philanthropic sectors.  
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a passion for sustainable development and a collaborative mindset with private sector experience, as well as someone who is interested in learning more about developmental work in the nonprofit sector - specifically in a global health organization. 

Essential Functions and Core Competencies
Partnership Development, Advocacy and Communications (45%):

  • Conduct research on relevant topics, countries, and partners of interest to the END Fund’s key stakeholder engagement and advocacy efforts in Africa. Write up research findings for internal and external audiences as needed
  • Develop proposals, internal project charters, and contracts for private sector, government, philanthropic, and other partnerships. Maintain ongoing and deepening engagement with partners through written communications and meetings. Manage sub-grants as needed. 
  • Provide support for planning and organizing logistics for END Fund events and activities; especially those geared towards driving partnership development, advocacy, resource mobilization goals, and positioning the END Fund and its champions as thought leaders. This includes developing a concrete follow-up plan to events to ensure they are maximally effective.

Project Management (30%):

  • Operationalize the country ownership and sustainability strategy by co-developing distinct long and short term projects, with goals and milestones to keep projects on track
  • Ensure deadlines are met and projects stay within budget. Adjust project timelines and targets as needed, remaining flexible to changing circumstances. Communicate relevant status updates to internal and external stakeholders as required. 

Internal Systems Management and Measurement (25%):

  • Contribute to Public Affairs outputs such as board reports, annual budgeting, periodic grant reporting, and relevant department meetings. 
  • Provide support for the implementation and management of systems for identifying champions in the END Fund network.
  • Support with the analysis of data and creation of data visualizations for key donor reports. Assist with writing qualitative reporting (narrative sections) in line with reporting needs and structure
  • Contribute towards updating and maintaining key private and public sector contacts, organizations, and metrics in CRM database (Salesforce).
  • Other projects or tasks as assigned in service of organizational goals.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree is required
  • Minimum of four years of work experience, preferably private sector experience such as corporate social responsibility/sustainability, management consulting, corporate communications, or public affairs. Other directly relevant experience may be considered
  • Strategic about achieving objectives; handles multiple projects simultaneously with excellent follow through and attention to detail
  • A self-starter motivated by an entrepreneurial and results-oriented culture 
  • May be required to sometimes adjust standard working hours in order to accommodate key internal and external stakeholders in different time zones
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally (up to 20%), for relevant internal meetings and external events, as travel begins to resume 
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Sophistication with common computer software, including Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint in particular), G-Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.), and willingness to learn more, if needed, including Salesforce
  • Familiarity with global health and/or international development issues preferred
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity
  • Authorization to work in Kenya or Nigeria required
  • Desire to continuously improve processes in support of achieving greater results
  • A self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, quantitative, and written skills in English 
  • Confidence, discretion, and poise to engage with high-level individuals ranging from prospective donors to Board members; adheres to high professional and ethical standards, and will represent the END Fund externally with the utmost respect

Remuneration

  • If based in Nigeria, anticipated starting base salary range is 25,311,203 - 28,630,705 Naira Annually.
  • If based in Kenya, anticipated starting base salary range is KES 7,321,600 - 8,465,600 Annually.
