Job Description

  • The  Funds objective is to  establish large-scale mechanized  commercial agribusinesses in irrigable  areas  suited to  staple crop  farming,  agro-processing and  agro-allied businesses.
  • Structured  as  an  open-ended  Fund,  the  Fund  will actively seek  new  wealth  creation opportunities across diverse agricultural value chains through  collaboration with local and international partners.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Apply financial guidelines to considered and actual investments, and provide recommendations on viability, compliance, improvement and monitoring systems
  • Maintain relationships and monitor activities of approved investments
  • Establish key operational indicators for each project
  • Review operational, management and financial, reports and plans on a regular basis
  • Prepare Investment Proposals for presentation to and consideration by Investment Committee
  • Submit additional reports on operations as requested by Board or Investment Committee
  • Maintain relationships with partners, government, business and investors, to identify and evaluate potential projects, monitor and provide business assistance to active investments
  • Build resource network of real estate, business and investment professionals
  • Originate and source business for the unit- mainlany advisory mandates and fund and RE proprietary invetments
  • Gather, verify and analyze information about potential or current investments. Actively seek, solicit, and market to generate projects for investment
  • Conduct due diligence of projects as appropriate at each stage of pipeline
  • Provide business advisory support
  • Make decisions based on due diligence or monitoring, with regard to whether and how to proceed with investment
  • Work on negotiation, structuring and legal documentation of investments
Daily Activities/ Tasks
  • Sourcing potential investments.
  • Supervising Mandates.
  • Managing relationships on projects directly under supervision in terms of portfolio execution.
  • Monitoring operational and financial performance of proposed  projects.
  • Working with project principals on negotiation, structuring and legal documentation of investments.
  • Monitoring investments in portfolios and making supported recommendations to management regarding the sale of holdings, valuations and exits and upon management approval, execute the recommendations.
Performing investor relations duties as follows:
  • Ensuring proper liaison between the department and its clients and managing communication between the department and its clients to ensure that critical information and client reports are prepared on a timely basis and are circulated to the appropriate persons.
  • Provide business advisory support
  • Maintain relationships and monitor activities of approved investments
  • Prepare Investment Proposals for presentation to and consideration by Investment Committee
  • Submit additional reports on operations as requested by Board or Investment Committee.
  • Work on negotiation, structuring and legal documentation of investments
  • Conduct due diligence of projects as appropriate at each stage of pipeline
  • Create / review financial models to guide in the investment decision making process
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Good knowledge of the local and global financial service industry dynamics including regulations, legislations and operating environment
  • Understanding the key risks in project financing structures
  • Understanding of the different sources and levels of funding available for project finance purposes
  • Advanced understanding of the private equity market
  • Ability to present own and others' ideas in a away that addresses specific client situations
  • Ability to work closely with other colleagues in cross-selling of all business products and services
  • Understand the features of investment options such as hedge funds, derivatives & asset-backed instruments
  • In-depth understanding of financial statements, notably ratio analysis, income taxes, pension and employee benefits, financial liabilities, leases and off balance sheet debt, derivatives and hedging.
  • Familiarity with capital budgeting and investment analysis process
  • Understanding the various financial instruments
  • Good understanding of accounting, finance, budgeting and cost control procedures
  • Understanding of alternative methods of transaction structuring
  • Good understanding of issues relating to fund raising (origination, distribution and risk sharing)
  • Good report and letter writing skills, communication skills, supervisory skills
