Job Title: Accountant
Locations: Lagos and Rivers (Onne)
Job Summary
- The Accountant will be responsible for gathering, reviewing, analysing and presenting financial and non-financial information from various sources within and outside the company and make recommendations that will positively impact the company.
Responsibilities
- Financial reporting process (i.e. GL, Trial balance and Annual Financial reports) in line with IFRS; ensuring completeness, correctness and accuracy of accounting records and transactions
- Prepare monthly and quarterly management reports and variance analysis i.e. actual versus budget variances and comprehensive executive level explanations of differences
- Prepare monthly cash forecasts and annual budget for the company
- Ensure that the Company's business control framework is effective through maintenance of a fit-for-purpose risk based framework of business and financial controls
- Account payables management; settlement of vendors’ bills and resolution of disputes, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all transactions with vendors.
- Payroll Administration and month end reporting (including GL & bank reconciliations)
- Inventory supervision process both at the company’s warehouse and third party warehouses
- Review of third party expense reimbursement report
- Account for sales and invoicing
- Establishing and managing local banking relationships
- Review of draft contracts with vendors for fiscal compliance and providing support where necessary to the procurement unit
- Ensure compliance with financial and fiscal reporting (statutory and others) requirements
- Jointly responsible for annual audits (financial audit and tax audit – LIRS, FIRS)
- Negotiate the resolution of fiscal issues with the relevant Government agencies (i.e FIRS, LIRS, NCDMB etc.) and provide advice on fiscal matters.
- Manage the provision of high quality and efficient treasury services including cash management, insurance, pensions, and foreign exchange management
- Supervise the preparation of WHT and VAT schedules for filing with government and remittances
- Support the role in corporate tax process & management
- Play a supporting role in the development of the Finance strategy and the annual Business Plan
- Liaising with government agency (i.e. DPR and NAPIMS) on technical related matters.
- Supervise the finance department
- Ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the Managing Director.
Key Requirements
- A First Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a business-related discipline
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in Internal audit, Account Officer or related financial assignments in the Oil and Gas industry is highly preferred.
- Relevant professional qualifications (ICAN, ACCA). Competent in the use of SAGE software.
