About the Project

  • SIF Nigeria will be implementing a project that seeks to provide support and protection to the most vulnerable women and children in Gusau LGA of Zamfara State.
  • The aim of the proposed intervention is to stabilize local communities affected by the humanitarian crisis in Zamfara state through a better access to basic social services and income generating activities.
  • It is about to protecting women, girls and boys, including individuals or groups at risks from harm and ensuring that women, girls and boys who are exposed to protection risks are immediately referred to relevant specialized services of case management and psychosocial support through an interactive referral pathway developed.

Job Summary

  • Under the supervision of Program Manager, the WPE officer will be responsible for implementation, quality assurance, and smooth running of the WPE response sector in the Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) or mobile team which includes the services of GBV case management, psychosocial support for women and girls, and will provide technical support for outreach activities.

Major Responsibilities
In collaboration and under the direct supervision of Program Manager, the WPE Officer will:

  • Support establishment of the WGSS and assist with locating safe areas to conduct psychosocial support (PSS) in communities reached by the mobile teams.
  • Supervise effective management of WGSS through supportive supervision practices and work with the WPE team in ensuring activities are reflective of women’s and girls’ needs and wants.
  • Work with partner organization in developing and strengthening community-based women support mechanism and committees and development and implementation of community action plan.
  • Provide on job training and technical support to SIF’ project staff.
  • Update and improve the GBV referral pathway.
  • Maintain positive coordination and relationship with GBV actors and services providers and SIF staff.
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess program quality and progress toward objectives and facilitate collective problem solving with staff and other stakeholders to address challenges identified.
  • Ensure that lessons learnt and success stories from projects are effectively documented and shared.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the stakeholders to ensure safe and accessible programming.
  • Contribute to preparing the monthly spending, procurement, and work plans.
  • Provide WPE case workers with weekly supportive supervision sessions.
  • Ensure timely delivery efficient utilization of requested supplies/resources for WGSS.
  • Support WPE community mobilisers with safety audits with women and girls to identify risks and compile findings in monthly report to improve community services for women and girls.
  • Support field team to develop outreach plan based on feedback of women and girls in the community and accessing the WGSS.
  • Support partners in strengthening field based GBV referral mechanisms and pathways and identify gaps and improve services for women and girls keeping in mind survivor centered approach.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Position Reports to:  Program Manager, technical reporting to Program Coordinator.
  • Position directly supervises: GBV case workers and WPE Community Mobilizers.
  • Other Internal and/or external contacts:
    • Internal: Program Coordinator, Program Manager, GBV case workers and WPE Community Mobilizers.
    • External: Communities, Women and Girls, Government Department, Civil Society Organizations.

Job Requirements
Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or other discipline

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in implementing women centered WPE response and prevention programs.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent knowledge of the working environment.
  • Proven experience in conducting and facilitating trainings and workshops.
  • Good working knowledge of English language; grip on local language is a must.
  • A good team player, flexible, able to handle pressure well, and strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft word and excel.
  • Willing to travel to field sites as required.
  • Proven experience in understanding of gender equality, women's rights and empowerment.
  • Demonstrated experience with working with women and girls affected by conflict.
  • Excellent listening and observation skills, including ability to create trust, support, respect and interact with women and girls of all ages, background and diversity.
  • Knowledge of gender-based violence response services, women’s protection and empowerment, and the survivor centered approach.
  • Be flexible; be able to work in a team, sometimes under pressure and often in an unstable security environment.
  • Deep understanding of women and girls’ strengths in the context of Zamfara.
