Job Title: Video Journalist / Editor

Location: Abuja

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a talented and creative Video Journalist/Editor to join our media team.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for producing original visual story-telling contents and assembling recorded footage into a well-edited audio-visual content that matches the newsroom’s vision and is suitable for TV broadcast or digital platforms.
  • You will work closely with Editors, reporters, and other team members to create compelling and visually engaging content that aligns with our brand’s goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support for the ICIR Editor and FactCheckHub team through the Head of Digital Unit for content development.
  • Assist with the editing, production, and publishing of audio-visual content for ICIR news website and FactCheckHub website.
  • Ensure all content adheres to technical and creative standards for broadcast or digital platforms.
  • Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Create news from viral videos that meet ICIR editorial standards and policies
  • Integrate music, dialogues, graphics, and audio-visual effects seamlessly into final edits
  • Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and techniques to continually improve editing and content creation quality.
  • Editing webtext content, including text, tables, charts, figures, and embedded video to ensure clarity, accuracy, readability, and integrity of content while maintaining conformity to ICIR editorial policies, accessibility standards, and inhouse style.
  • Edit raw footage into professional video content, including but not limited to documentaries, news segments, interviews, explainers, media literacy and promotional materials.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to create audio-visual narratives that enhance storytelling and engage the target audience.
  • Any other assignments that might be given to you by your supervisor(s).

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Film, Media, Communications, or a related field.
  • Certification in video editing or broadcast production is a plus.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Video Journalist/Editor or Multimedia Editor, preferably in a media or broadcast setting.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced digital media environment.
  • Attention to detail with a keen eye for aesthetics and visual storytelling.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with social media video formats and digital platforms (YouTube, Instagram, etc.) is essential.
  • Proficiency with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Canva or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of post-production workflow, from footage import to final output.
  • Knowledge of color grading, sound design, and visual effects.
