Job Title: Test and Repair Engineer

Location: Abuja
Employment Type: Full-time

Overview

  • The Test and repair Engineer role will play an critical part in Okra’s support and product development processes, with the main focus on Nigeria market.
  • The main activities of the role will be analysing, diagnosing and repairing failed electronics equipment (the “Okra Pod”, inverters, batteries, etc.), and developing all necessary standards and procedures to enable this.
  • This role will involve applying fundamental electronics engineering knowledge to assess a range of hardware devices with abnormal performance.
  • The successful applicant will need to summarize and report diagnostics results to a range of stakeholders to ensure sufficient product fixes and warranty claim processes can be actioned further.
  • The short term focus of this role will be to rapidly onboard to testing procedures for Okra Pods, inverters and batteries and generating in-depth reports to the product team and running smooth testing operations on a ongoing basis.

Responsibilities
Full ownership of all diagnostics and repair operations:

  • Debugging failed energy equipment (batteries, solar panels, Inverters, MPPT Controllers)
  • Running all equipment received through the proper testing processes.
  • Share operational reports on a regular basis, detect failure trends and work with engineering and product teams on their investigation
  • Working with QA/QC, engineering and product teams to suggest product design optimisation to better handle common failure modes.

Working in the field with Service Delivery Member:

  • Going out to rural off-grid area for multiple days at a time to deploy projects with our partners
  • Facilitating training sessions on Field Operations with our partners
  • Gather impact data and generating impact reports for engineering team.

Managing knowledge inside responsibility area:

  • Maintain technical records of incidents and failures
  • Contribute to product FMECA and risk analysis
  • Upskill support team people for agreed  operations.
  • Create guides, manuals and other materials to support partners and users
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the field test and processes

Required Experience

  • High school graduate
  • 2+ years of experience working in power electronics testing and repairing
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with energy systems
  • Lead-acid, Li-Ion or similar batteries testing and cell-by-cell repair experience
  • Developing repair / debugging standards and procedures.

Nice to Have:

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Experience working with solar power equipment.

Hard Skills:

  • Hands-on knowledge of AC and DC power electronic equipment testing and repair
  • Good documentation and process building skills
  • Good issue trend analytics and reports creation skills.

Soft Skills:

  • Good oral and written English communication
  • Ability to research and problem solve (either form other team members or by online research)
  • Comfortable to work in rural locations up to several workdays.

Salary Range (gross)
USD10,000 - USD20,000 Annually.
