Specialist - Factory Machineshop at Golden Sugar Company Limited


Golden Sugar Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, and a member of the FMN Group. The company operates one of the biggest Sugar Refineries in Nigeria, with a capacity to process 750,000 metric tons of Sugar per annum.

Job Title: Specialist - Factory Machineshop

Location: Mokwa, Niger
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Description

  • Equipment: The machineshop contains a range of specialized machines such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, drills, CNC machines, EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) machines, and more. These machines are capable of shaping, cutting, drilling, and finishing workpieces with high precision.
  • Tooling and Fixtures: The machineshop is equipped with a variety of cutting tools, fixtures, jigs, and clamping devices to securely hold and position workpieces during machining operations. These tools and fixtures are essential for maintaining accuracy and repeatability in the manufacturing process.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Machinists prioritize safety within the machineshop, following safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks associated with operating machinery. They are responsible for the routine maintenance of machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs. They may also coordinate with maintenance personnel for more extensive repairs or machine upgrades.
  • Collaboration and Documentation: Machinists in the machineshop often work closely with design engineers, project managers, and other team members. Effective communication and documentation play a crucial role in ensuring that specifications are met and that any issues or challenges are addressed promptly.
  • Setup and Operation: Skilled machinists in the machineshop are responsible for setting up the machines according to specific job requirements. They install the appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and workpieces, and program CNC machines to execute the desired operations. Machinists closely monitor the machines during operation, ensuring that the manufacturing processes run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Programming and CAD/CAM: For CNC machines, machinists may use computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to create or modify machine programs. This allows for precise control over machining operations, including tool paths, cutting speeds, and feeds.
  • Quality Control: Quality control is a critical aspect of the machineshop. Machinists perform regular inspections using precision measuring instruments to ensure that workpieces meet the required specifications and tolerances. They may also conduct post-machining processes like deburring, polishing, or surface treatment to achieve the desired finish.

Requirements

  • Candidates should possess an HND / First Degree with 2 - 10 years relevant work experience.
