We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Sanitation Marketing Officer

Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Employment Type: Full Time

Reporting to:  Programme Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct proper operational findings on sanitation marketing that are evidence-based on current practices;
  • Undertake continuous feedback from the community, vendors, and producers on how to adapt and improve the product and customer satisfaction
  • Implement Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) awareness campaigns targeting adolescents, girls, and women of reproductive age.
  • Assist the Programme Manager with, and where required to participate in, community mobilization;
  • Ensure that all technical work reflects the needs and preferences of different target groups.
  • Ensure the provision of tools, equipment, and training to health facility staff on the operation and maintenance of sanitation facilities.
  • Organize meetings with community members to develop their sales ability. Work on sales pitches, having structured sales conversations, developing conversations, and closing deal
  • Coaching sales teams and working one-on-one on sales;
  • Develop a sanitation marketing strategy based on the 4Ps (Price, Product, Place, Promotion)
  • Conduct a market survey, identify goals, and develop a market plan
  • Support barrier analysis on the use of latrines through the various options recommended
  • Coordinate with local vendors to implement a sanitation marketing approach, improving the quality and sustainability of household latrines.
  • Lead the implementation of hygiene promotion activities in communities, health facilities, and schools.
  • Setting up systems to monitor program quality from artisan;
  • Identification and sensitization of local artisans on various latrine designs and construction with the signing of an MOU in collaboration with stakeholders;
  • Develop an inventory of trained artisans in each community including participating in vendors’ selection;
  • Train and build the capacity of Community Health Influencers, Promoters, and Services (CHIPS) and other stakeholders on hygiene promotion and sanitation practices;
  • Select and train gender champions from WASH Committees (WASHCOMs) to address gender and protection-related issues and to serve as MHM champions;
  • Collaborate with ward development committees and local government units, such as LGA WASH units and RUWASA, to ensure sustainability;
  • Monitor the construction of subsidized household latrines with high-quality materials that will be durable and cost-effective in terms of maintenance;
  • Develop promotion materials to support the selling of products;
  • Run workshops and collect feedback on materials;
  • Working with local media influencers and advocacy teams to develop material to push the products on social media;
  • Develop a dynamic partnership with local celebrities;
  • Support production of radio, promotional video, TV, and creative outlets;
  • Link promotion with local events.
  • Assess areas for improvement and record lessons learnt for future activities;
  • Design strategy for working territory, setting up sales appointments, scheduling, and mapping territory;
  • Ensure implementation of CLTS (Community-Led Total Sanitation), PHAST (Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation), and CHAST (Child Hygiene and Sanitation Training); methodologies to eliminate open defecation;
  • Develop monitoring systems for sales based on controller inputs mot sales (e.g  Number of hours worked per day;  sales calls; sales conversation.  Number of signed contract);
  • Work in collaboration with community mobilizers officers in the implementation of a Behavioural Change Communication strategy in relation to sanitation marketing;

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in public and Environmental Health, Social Sciences, Marketing, Water Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Hydraulics and Water Resource Development, and other related fields;
  • Experience working with Sales Teams;
  • Previous experience in implementing CLTS and sanitation marketing;
  • Professional, good organizational capacity, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible, and culturally sensitive;
  • Microsoft Office software Skills (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word);
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited;
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in hygiene promotion, health education, or community mobilization, preferably within the NGO sector;
  • Have a strong understanding of hygiene promotion principles, behavior change communication, marketing, and public health approaches while working with International and National NGOs or Government agencies;
  • Fluency in English, Hausa, Kanuri, and Shuwa languages.
