About the Job

  • Ensure that the qualities of the premix, intermediate and final products comply with plant targets and national specifications and provide input to ensure that products are competitive in the market.

What You Will be Doing

  • Abide by the 8 Mandatory Holcim Health, Safety and Environmental Rules to guarantee environmental safety and safety at the workplace as a condition of employment
  • To ensure team members’ compliance with the Organization’s OH&S, Quality and Environmental policies as well as the safety of lives and property during quality operations. Ensure adequate housekeeping within the QA&C labs and contribute to plant housekeeping programs. Provide updated SDS for all chemicals and reagents available in stock and guide procurement to ensure implementation for future purchases
  • Supervise and coordinate the operations of the various labs namely; Physical Lab, Concrete Lab, Sample Preparation Lab, Quality Control Lab and Chemical Lab.
  • Ensure strict implementation of an appropriate Quality Control Plan from raw material extraction to cement dispatch and ensure periodic reviews where necessary to comply with emerging circumstances and International Best Practices
  • Ensure that appropriate Quality Management System is implemented for the various labs and manage it in line with the Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS)
  • Propose and ensure validation and regular reviews of achievable manufacturing targets based on current market trends and plant capability and ensure its’ full implementation at all times during plant operations
  • Ensure optimum availability and reliability (including periodic calibrations) of all Laboratory equipments, tools, accessories and spares to guarantee seamless Quality operations
  • Understand Holcim’s business and corporate concepts and plans and to cascade same to the QC team to foster the spirit of corporate identity and mission
  • By way of appropriate duty schedule & manpower planning, ensure the availability and optimum performance of Quality Assurance & Control team members according to plant needs
  • Develop and build teams, encourage and build mutual trust, respect and co- operation among team members
  • Ensure that all data, records and information generated during quality operations are well preserved and regularly updated in simple and retrievable hard and electronic copies
  • Call for and support maintenance teams during corrective/preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Maintain and update inventories for all equipment, spares, chemicals, materials, instruments and any other items as may belong to the QA & C department
  • Provide operational direction, guidance and motivation to team members including tasks assignment, monitoring and evaluation
  • Identify operational needs in terms of men and material and raise request proposal for departmental and management approval for prompt implementation and provision
  • Ensure implementation of a system of on-the-job coaching and mentoring within the team with identification of potential skills, talents and follow up with their development
  • Carry out any other duty/assignment or work in any function as may be required due to Plant demands by the Quality Manager and or the Plant Manager.

Requirements
Who are we looking for:

  • A University or Polytechnic graduate from any one of the following disciplines:
    • Natural/Physical/Applied Sciences
    • Engineering
  • NYSC Discharge Certificate or Certified Letter of Exemption (mandatory)

Specific Work experience:

  • Has worked as Shift Chemist and Quality Assurance Chemist
  • Had previously worked in a similar role in any cement manufacturing company
  • Had previously worked in a similar role in any Manufacturing Laboratory.

Technical / Functional Skills:

  • Health & Safety – Actively participate in team-based safety. Ability to prepare and lead a safety inspection in a specific area of the plant. Participate in the development and implementation of safety action plans for continuous improvement. Demonstrate proficiency in job safety analysis.
  • Environment – Inspect and maintain environmental control equipment to ensure compliance. Keep pace with plant environmental policies/regulations/monitoring equipment.
  • Quality – Ability to assess impact of raw mix uniformity on process and product. Perform raw mix calculation by using the appropriate tool in order to obtain a finished product which meets specifications. Ensure safe lab operations. Apply the QC procedures; ensure implementation and updating of the plant Quality Plan. Guarantee accuracy and reliability of lab data. Check adherence of all quality parameters from the quarry to cement dispatch. Construct and launch experimental plan, under supervision, to resolve a recurring problem (e.g excessive deviation of a quality parameter etc).
