Job Title: Protection Assistant

Location: Kurfi, Katsina

Job Summary

  • Under the direct supervision of the Protection and Community Outreach (PCO) Officer, the Protection and Community Outreach (PCO) Assistant will support the setup and management of a community-based Protection Volunteers’ (CBPV) Network in Mashi and Kurfi LGAs of Katsina.
  • She / he will assist the PCO Officer in developing, implementing, monitoring protection and community outreach activities, in compliance with work plans, donor regulations and PUI policies and will ensure that protection principles are mainstreamed in all sectoral programs of PUI.
  • He / She will play a key role in increasing community knowledge and access to services while strengthening PUI knowledge of and acceptance within the community.

Responsibilities
Community Outreach and Engagement:

  • Assist in identifying and recruiting Community-based Protection Volunteers (CBPVs).
  • Develop and distribute informational materials (like IEC materials) for community awareness campaigns.
  • Support the organization of workshops and awareness sessions on protection issues.
  • Work with the PCO Officer to build and maintain relationships with community leaders, committees, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in community events and meetings alongside the PCO Officer.

Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Assist with field assessments and data collection activities.
  • Contribute to data entry and management within the program database.
  • Support the PCO Officer in report writing by providing relevant information and community feedback.

Case Management and Referral:

  • Assist the PCO Officer in identifying potential protection cases (child protection, GBV, etc.) and malnutrition cases within the community.
  • Provide support with internal and external referrals for identified cases and ensure proper follow-up.

Volunteer Management:

  • Coordinate with assigned CBPVs regarding their work plans and progress towards set targets.
  • Ensure CBPVs have a clear understanding of the referral system, available services, and their assigned activities.
  • Facilitate communication between CBPVs and the PCO Officer.
  • Participate in routine field visits to monitor CBPV activities and provide feedback.

Additional Duties:

  • Proactively identify populations potentially missed by the program, such as marginalized communities or new arrivals.
  • Report any challenges or delays in activity implementation to the PCO Officer.
  • Represent PUI in a professional manner when assigned duties require it.

Priorities of the Department:

  • Set up the community outreach network in the assigned catchment area supported by pui
  • Ensure a continuous grasp on the population needs and vulnerabilities and strengthen pui reactivity responding to emerging humanitarian needs
  • Provide an appropriate support to identified protection cases and other cases with urgent needs through internal and external referral pathways
  • Ensure data quality and updated databases.

Salary
N312,000 monthly.
