Project Coordinator at Save the Children

Child Safeguarding
- Level 3: The role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
Role Purpose:
- The Project Coordinator will generally be deployed in an emergency response at field level offices/programmes’ sites.
- The role of the Project Coordinator is to manage the design and implementation of programme and operational activities in Borno state.
- S/he may also be deployed to support the in-country coordination mechanisms in a large scale emergency response.
- In most circumstances, the post holder will be expected to mentor and/or capacity build existing country programme staff.
Key Areas of Accountability
Programme Support (typically will be at field level):
- Ensure quality delivery of programme activities, for example, monitoring against log frames, budget forecast and reporting and monitoring on the BvA.
- Preparation of timely programme and donor reports for project activities in compliance with internal and external requirements.
- In close collaboration with the Sector Leads and project focal points, manage project field activities, ensuring project objectives are being achieved and ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of our field work.
- Working closely with the Sector Leads and Project Focal Points, ensure that the project implementation strategy is clearly understood by the implementing teams, and ensure that project plans and strategies are adhered to during implementation.
- Follow up and ensure all procurements are implemented in alignment with project procurement plans.
- Ensure all documentation, reports, and records are maintained per agreed procedure, and information is provided on community activities as required.
- Facilitate regular project deep dive meetings with Sector Leads and project focal points to ensure project is implemented on time, budget and quality
- Develop and implement participatory assessment to contribute to programme planning and MEAL processes
- Manage and motivate project staff to perform highly in their respective roles and responsibilities. This will include leading on staffing structure, recruitment, performance management and implementing staff welfare policy
- To ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter.
- Must adhere to the child safeguarding and protection policies and reporting standards.
- Facilitate internal and external donor communications with Members and Country Office.
- Manage implementation of award portfolio, ensuring that projects and reports are delivered according to SC and donor contractual requirements, within the agreed timescale and budget.
- Develop and manage relevant multi-sector and multi-site budgets, ensuring proper authorisation and monitoring expenditure in line with SC and donor budgets, award management and financial guidelines, preparing budget plans, supervising variance analysis reports, and managing all sub-budget holders.
- Contribute relevant site level and operational input to the master budget
- Prepare and oversee programme implementation to ensure timely delivery of programme activities (for example, monitoring against log frames, individual performance management work-plans, etc.).
- Implement effective safety and security procedures for the project, ensuring staff compliance and that new programmes are built around security considerations
- Manage logistics processes to procure, store and distribute stock, supplies and services for the timely delivery of project objectives within the field base
- Other ad hoc tasks as requested by Line Manager
Capacity Building:
- Identify learning and training opportunities for Save the Children staff and partners and work as a mentor and role model for less experienced staff.
Representation & Advocacy & Organisational Learning:
- Ensure that Save the Children's work is coordinated with efforts of other agencies and Government, and take a leadership role within Interagency Coordination forums, ensuring the specific needs of children are being addressed.
- Contribute to communications and media work., representing the organisation at field level to media, local government and other fora as required
General:
- Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child safeguarding, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Significant relevant experience of working in the in-country humanitarian teams/programmes and/or being deployed to humanitarian responses in other countries
- Degree or equivalent field experience
- Experience of identifying advocacy issues at field level, or supporting efforts at national level
- Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
- Excellent communication skills
- Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
- A high level of written and spoken English
- The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
- Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. In particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
- Previous experience of managing a team
- Previous experience of programme and project management
- Demonstrable project budget management experience
- Management experience of single site and multi-sector programme
Desirable:
- Multi-site management experience.
- Experience of M&E and beneficiary accountability.
- Experience of local level co-ordination with key stakeholders and other NGOs.
- Knowledge of local language.
