Programme Officer, Governance and Rights at Christian Aid

The Nigeria Country programme focuses on Community Health and HIV, Accountable Governance including humanitarian response and Gender.

Job Title: Programme Officer, Governance and Rights

Location: Abuja

About the Role

  • The Programme Officer - Governance and Rights will support Christian Aid’s governance and rights programme to improve government accountability and responsiveness to the needs of poor and marginalised people.
  • The role holder be responsible for supporting and managing Christian Aid partnerships on the governance and rights programme as well as the effective disbursement of funds to Christian Aid partners, assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of the programme, providing effective and timely support (including capacity building) to partner organisations, enabling them to implement innovatively, and ensuring that this is in line with Christian Aid’s country strategy.

About You

  • You must have a B.Sc, B.A Degree in Social Sciences or Development-related field, preferably in Political Science or with a Governance / Public Policy Focus.
  • S/he must have at least three years of NGO experience with significant experience in implementing governance programmes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively represent Christian Aid at the national, state and local levels are critical for this role.
  • A high level of computer literacy and strong communication skills (verbal and written) are essential for the role.
  • S/he must have an in-depth understanding of issues of governance, power and gender. Experience working with local partner organisations as well understanding of the local context in Nigeria is a must for this role. The post holder must have a good knowledge of official donors such as EU, FCDO, USAID and a proven track record of successful fundraising.
