Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) is a not-for-profit impact investment fund specializing in the media sector, principally in news businesses. We work in countries where the press is not free. Since 1995 MDIF has invested $255m in 131 independent media businesses in 44 countries, typically where the independence of journalism cannot be guaranteed and access to information is under threat. Our financing helps independent media companies to fulfil their commercial potential while safeguarding their editorial independence.

Job Description

  • The Nigeria Media Innovation Program (NAMIP) is a multi-year media initiative that seeks to accelerate digital media innovation and sustainability among independent media outlets in Nigeria. NAMIP is seeking to appoint a full-time ‘Program Officer to join the team.
  • We are seeking a highly competent and organized media professional in a full-time contract position for the duration of the program (end date 31 December, 2024).
  • The successful applicant will be based in Nigeria, either Lagos or Abuja. S/he will ideally be able to start immediately at the latest by 3 January, 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Logistical preparations for all program related activities, such as workshops, in-house training, mentoring visits, etc.
  • If requested by the Program Director, visit and/or liaise with media partners on a regular basis and report on these visits and the findings to the Program Director.
  • Drafting of activity reports and maintaining program data in a timely manner.
  • Undertaking other program administration tasks as and when necessary.
  • Establishing sound professional relationships and liaising regularly with media partners, consultants, MDIF staff, and other external agencies, as required for the smooth running of the program.
  • Recording and reporting on project activities and expenditures, and compiling relevant data, as requested by the Program Director and according to project time frames.

Requirements

  • Suitable journalism / media qualifications (University Degree or relevant experience)
  • Ability to maintain partner relationships.
  • Passion for press freedom.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a program and project management role in journalism and media development.
  • A strong knowledge of the Nigerian journalism and media landscape
  • Demonstrable Research skills
  • Outstanding communication, organisation, and people skills.
