(NASENI) wishes to employ dynamic, focused and result-oriented
professionals to fill the following vacancies in three (3) of its
Development Institutes:
MANAGING DIRECTOR ELECTRONICS DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE. Awka. (CONRAISS 15)
Job Description:
The Electronics Development Institute, Awka has the mandate to
develop technologies required by the electronics materials and equipment
industries, and in particular, to undertake research, development and
production work into the following:
(a) System for the production of electronics components, electronics circuits, solar cells etc;
(b) Design and production of system of electronics equipment
and devices, measuring and control instruments, communication equipment,
computers, consumer electronics, etc.
(c) Establish and operate an electronic equipment and components test laboratory;
(d) Design, develop and produce manufacturing system for electronic components and assembled products;
(e) Transfer electronic products manufacturing plants to
private sector industries and render consultancy and extension services
to such and other industries;
(g) Establish and operate an in-house training school for
graduates, and accept, on its terms, graduate and other trainees for
practical work attachment in its work;
(h) Collaborate with relevant Government Ministries and
Agencies in the design of its research and development programmes and
projects; and
(i) Collaborate with tertiary institutions, Government Agencies, Corporate bodies,
International Organizations in the execution of its projects and programmes.
The Institute currently manufactures a variety of products serving
the needs of Educational Institutions and private sector SMEs. The
mandate of the Institutes include reverse-engineering and computer
technology and the Development and Production of Electrical and
Electronics Materials and assemblies including their production systems
and transfer of same to private sector satellite industries. The mission
of the Institute is to develop into a centre of excellence in
professional electrical and electronics that is competitive in the
global market through reverse-engineering, technology transfer and
innovation to the relevant SMEs.
The successful candidate for the post of Managing Director of the Institute must be able to:
- Surpass the current high level of output from the Institute.
- He/she will be responsible for the day-to day operations of the Institute.
- He/she manages the resources of the Institute for the purpose of meeting product and profit targets.
- He/she prepares proposals for long-term plans as well as the capital and recurrent budgets of the Institute.
- He/she reports directly to the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief
Executive of the National Agency for Science and Engineering
Infrastructure (NASENI).
Qualifications:
Candidate must possess relevant University degrees or their
equivalents up to Ph.D in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, COREN
registration and membership of engineering professional bodies are
mandatory.
Experience:
- At least 15 years post qualification experience (including machine
design and machine building), project and process development, teaching,
research and industry.
- Sound knowledge of machine shop practice at precision engineering
level will be an advantage as well as automation aids for manufacturing
operations.
- In addition, very reasonable knowledge of production management and
control will be required together with maintenance management
experience.
- Besides, candidates must have demonstrable leadership qualities and
show interest in continuous development and training of staff especially
in the areas of science and technology including Nanotechnology, CNC
and CAD/CAM.
- The job will also require the capacity to liaise with the private
sector and research and technology organizations locally and overseas.
MANAGING DIRECTOR. SCIENTIFIC EQUIPMENT DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (SEDD). Minna. (CONRAISS I5)
Job Description:
Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI), Minna, is one of
the oldest Development Institute in the NASENI system. It was
established with the mandate to develop the technologies required by
scientific equipment manufacturing industries; and also research and
develop systems for the mass production of industrial machines and other
capital goods as follows:
(a) School science Laboratory apparatus for Physics,
Chemistry, Biology, Technical Drawing, Introductory Technology, Social
Studies, etc.;
(b) Scientific equipment for Research, Industry and tertiary Institutions;
(c) Measuring and Control Instrument for electrical,
electronics, mechanical workshop, artisan, etc., for industries and
utility equipment;
(d) Instrument for Land surveying, Geophysical investigations, Meteorological observations etc.;
(e) Medical equipment and diagnostic instruments;
(f) Establish and operate the appropriate test and standard laboratories and quality control section;
(g) Establish and operate a training school for graduates, and
accept on its own terms, trainees for practical work experience in its
work;
(h) Collaborate with higher institutions, Government Agencies,
Corporate bodies, International Organizations in the execution of its
projects and programmes.
Currently, available facilities at the Institute include machine
shop, wood workshop, foundry workshop, glass blowing workshop, plastic
workshop, ceramic workshop, electro-plating workshop, CNC machine
workshop, etc. The Institute currently manufactures a variety of
products serving the needs of educational institutions and private
sector SMEs.
The successful candidate for the position of the Managing Director of the Institute must be:

- He/she is accountable for the day-to-day running of the Institute
and manages the resources of the Institute for the purpose of meeting

- He prepares proposals for long and medium plans as well as the capital and recurrent budgets of the Institute.

- Candidates must possess relevant University Degrees or their
equivalents up to Ph.D. in the fields of Mechanical/Production
Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Glass Ceramic Technology.
- COREN registration and membership of Engineering Professional bodies are mandatory.
Experience:
- At least 15 years post qualification experience in the fields of
Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Production Engineering,
Metallurgy and Foundry Technology, Glass and Ceramic Engineering,
Chemical Engineering and Advance Manufacturing Technology (including
machine design and machine building), project and process development,
teaching, research and industry.
- Sound knowledge of machine shop practice at precision engineering
