MHPSS Counsellor at Medecins du Monde (MdM)


Medecins du Monde (MdM) is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable populations, the world over, including France. It seeks to stimulate voluntary commitment from doctors, other health care providers, and from those whose expertise in other fields is needed for its activities, to enlist all competent support required for the achievement of its projects, and to seek at all times to encourage close working relationships with populations in its care. MdM operating in Nigeria, Borno state since October 2016.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: MHPSS Counsellor

Location: Damboa, Borno
Employment Type: Full Time

Main Responsibilities
Under the supervision of Medical supervisor, the Mental health Psychosocial Support counsellor will be responsible for the following main activities in order to ensure the quality of care in the mobile clinics:

  • Contribute to the implementation of the overall mental health and psychosocial support strategies, activities and resources in Damboa.
  • Facilitate the delivery of a quality mental health & psychosocial support (MHPSS) for individuals and their communities as well as to improve Communities mental health and psychosocial well-being.
  • Contribute to the integration of MHPSS component into existing and new programs according to HQ Mental Health Strategy  

Task Description
Programming:

  • Deliver one-on-one (Individual) and group counselling sessions to identified clients through MDM Clinics, and in line with MDM integrated approach
  • Develop psychosocial activities ; sensitization and awareness creation, family sessions, support groups, etc.
  • Support MHPSS Roving officer in delivering training, workshops etc. as outlined in the Project.
  • Deliver Health talk/sensitization on MHPSS related topics in MdM facility
  • Support in the creation of materials including publicity documents, workshops contents. 
  • Engage with the community to deliver and promote MdM MHPSS project activities in the designated locations.
  • Assist in writing monthly, quarterly, annual reports, monitoring and evaluation activity and progress reports of project activities including monthly reporting to the MHPSS officer.
  • On request support MHPSS Roving Officer and Medical supervisor in specific tasks
  • Actively participate in camp coordination meetings
  • Maintain a positive image of MdM at all times and in all circumstances.

Reporting:

  • Contribute to weekly activities reports to line manager (Medical supervisor)
  • Report to the MHPSS Officer monthly (mental health activities report to be sent in the first week of the month)

Security:

  • Apply and respect MdM security rules in the mission.

Obligations:

  • Maintain good socio-professional relationships with national and international partners.
  • Attend team meetings and to give qualitative input and report.
  • If necessary, contribute in preparing emergency plans with the MdM-F team to adjust MdM-F activities and medical resources to the needs.
  • Take part in advocacy and communication activities under the supervision of his/her line manager.
  • Perform other additional duties on request of the Medical Supervisor and Mental Health Roving Officer

Ability to accept feedbacks and willingness to improve own capacities. As the main MHPSS focal point in MdM Damboa Office:

  • Report MHPSS Needs and Gaps in Damboa.
  •  Support to draft MH integration plans and materials for MHPSS Project and reports as needed.
  • Support in Preparing MHPSS Reports for Advocacy uses.
  •  Support to draft MH integration training plans and materials; provide training and supervision as needed.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. In Psychology, Social wok, Guidance and counseling, and other related field.
  • At least 2 years of wok expérience in humanitarian settings
  • Because of the emergency relief nature of MdM’s work, working hours may be irregular and employees are expected to be flexible in their approach to working hours under emergency conditions.
  • He/she works under the supervision of the Human resources Coordinator.
  • The employee shall respect Médecins du Monde - France’s schedule and Condition of Employment (CoE) for National Staff and is expected to be available anytime in order to answer to an emergency situation and be flexible and available beyond normal working hours if requested.
  • This job description can be modified according to changes in MdM activities or in the context. It can be amended at any time after mutual consultation, in order to fit the requirements of the programs.
  • Made in English in two original copies, one for the employee and one for MDM, in Nigeria.

Salary Range
N400,000 - N500,000 / month.
