The Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI), formerly known as Centre for Communication Programs Nigeria (CCPN) was registered in 2001 as a Non-Governmental Organization with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria.
Birthed in Nigeria by the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (JHCCP), Baltimore, USA, CCPN transitioned its operations under the new name CCSI after an exciting 10 years of growth and operations in Nigeria and other African countries.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Profile
- Reporting to the Head of the Unit and the Executive Director, this role provides media and communication support to the business and her clients
Accountabilities
Media Support:
- Plan and manage the client’s media account.
- Action trackers: Keep a systematic record of all agreed deliverables and ensure adherence to agreed activities.
- Engage and participate in routing check-in calls with clients and other stakeholders, and regular planning calls during campaign.
- Project Planning and delivery
Media Relations and Reputation Management:
- Support with planning/ideating for media engagements
- Develop media contacts base development and updating, including compiling profiles of key media contacts
- Provide support for media engagements throughout the whole process: including media sell-in, setting up interviews, interview coordination, and reporting coverage
- Provide support with media briefing material in preparation for interviews (ensuring media interviewers are well prepared with pre-reads, and any necessary content to help make the interview fruitful for both parties)
- Conduct daily media monitoring, reporting and counsel for reputation management purposes.
- Press trip management, including identifying travelers, providing briefing support, and monitoring the outcomes of press trips
- Op-ed, written Q&As, etc drafting and placement, including pitching for media engagements.
- Campaign management: Supporting the whole process of campaigns from the start, evaluating successes and lessons learned.
Content Development:
- Create content development plans and priorities and implement them.
- Draft press releases, op-eds, talking points, briefing documents, and other necessary content.
- Develop communications collaterals content development (e.g brochures)
- Harvest and write grantee stories / human interest stories
Communications Strategy and Planning:
- Support clients with strategic thought partnerships, plans, and approaches
- Draft communications plans/approaches.
- Deliver communications plans/approaches.
- Conduct media research to keep up to date with new media developments.
Technical expertise, Experience, Skills, and Knowledge
- Tertiary Educated.
- At least 4 years of relatable experience
- Experience owning meetings/discussions with Heads of Business
- Ability to take initiative with minimal supervision.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to think and act strategically
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in written and oral communications.
- Advanced independent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer skills: proficient with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
- The ideal candidate must have a demonstrable understanding of Development Communication
- Must have experience in capacity building and/or training skills and be able to speak in public or facilitate training/workshops.
- Must have demonstrable and proven strong marketing, research, analytical and writing skills.

Other requirements include that the role holder must be:
- Team player: Be a strong team player and contribute to the growth of the larger team beyond media.
- Patience: Possess the ability for a long attention span, able to sit in long meetings and making sense of it all.
- Creativity: Possess a good design mindset, able to design flyers and reports for projects, etc.
- Case judgement: Possess the ability to judge between a potential reputational risk/crisis situation and a harmless situation.
- Social Media Capacity: Ability to ideate and generate content for social media including text, photo and video content.
- Journalism Network: Must belong to one or more professional media bodies e.g Nigerian Union of Journalists.
- Spontaneity: Possess the ability to multitask. Able to quickly identify story ideas, writing, editing, and capturing photographs and/or videos, for the blog from meetings and workshops.
- Teachable: Possess the ability to learn something new about everything/everyone and everything about something/someone relevant for working at CCSI or with a client/partner.
- Good Temperance: Possess the ability to professionally handle possible clients’ not-too-friendly emotional expressions.
- Instinctive: Possess the ability to offer a plausible first attempt to solve any problem.
- Media Skills/Media Relations: Possess at least 5 years of working in a national media house and able to function as a complete media person ( including ability for nose for news, writing) including an extensive and robust media relationship at the national level. A good relationship with regional media networks or the ability to secure contacts is a plus.
