MindAfrica Leadership Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the digital, educational, and economic inequities facing economically disadvantaged children and youths in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. MindAfrica is headquartered in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Our mission is to bridge the competency and knowledge gaps for underserved African children and youths through digital skills education, STEM enrichment and mentorship.

Job Title: Media and Communications Officer

Job Description

  • We are seeking a dynamic and creative individual to join our team as a Media and Communications Officer. This role will be responsible for designing, curating, and posting engaging content across various digital platforms, including social media, newsletters, and other communication channels.
  • The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling, a keen eye for design, and a strong understanding of social media strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a communications strategy to effectively engage stakeholders and promote MindAfrica’s mission and initiatives.
  • Create visually compelling and informative content for social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) that aligns with MindAfrica’s brand identity and messaging.
  • Design and distribute newsletters and email campaigns to keep stakeholders informed about MindAfrica’s activities, events, and achievements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather content, stories, and updates to share with the community.
  • Track and analyze the performance of social media content and email campaigns using analytics tools, and provide regular reports with actionable insights to optimize future content strategies.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in digital communications and social media marketing.
  • Manage the content calendar, including planning and scheduling posts in advance to ensure consistent and timely delivery of content.
  • Monitor social media channels for trends, news, and opportunities to engage with followers and relevant communities.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc in Computer Science, Marketing, Communication, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing social media accounts and creating engaging content for digital platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp) and experience in designing and executing email campaigns.
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and strategies for optimizing content for search engines is a plus.
  • Passion for social impact and a commitment to the mission and values of MindAfrica.
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and experience in producing multimedia content (photos, videos, infographics).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and platforms.
