Media and Communication Consultancy Jobs at Helen Keller International (HKI)


Established in 1915, Helen Keller International (HKI) works to save the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. We combat the causes and consequences of blindness and malnutrition by establishing programs based on evidence and research in vision, health and nutrition.
Headquartered in New York City, HKI currently conducts programs in 22 countries in Africa and Asia as well as in the United States.

HKI-NG has initiated number of projects in neglected tropical disease (NTD) control/elimination, behaviour change communication for NTDs, IYCF (SPRING project) and orange-fleshed sweet potato (Reaching Agents of Change). In 2013, HKI obtained a grant from DFID through UNITED Consortium to implement an integrated NTDs (LF, Trachoma, Oncho, STH and Schisto) control/elimination in Katsina. Prior to this, HKI has been implementing NTDs (Oncho and LF) control/elimination in Adamawa, Borno and Akwa Ibom states since 1999


Job Title:  Media Consultant

 
Program objective
The purpose of this request is to select a Media/Communication consultant to conduct
  1.  An awareness information campaign to reach every individual within the catchment area of drug distribution.
  2. Raise the visibility of the MDA campaign to ensure participation of major stakeholders and government.
Expected outcome
  1. Ensure high profile participation of government – Governor, First Lady or Deputy Governor - at flag off ceremony with media coverage of the event on radio and TV.
  2. A brief documentary video on the events during the MDA campaign as an advocacy tool to the government and other key stake holders. The video will also be uploaded to HKI’s YouTube channel.
  3. Finalized script for radio, TV and street drama/dance.
  4. Radio play in the Ibibio and 1 other local dialect and TV drama in English and to facilitate them being aired on local radio and TV channels.
  5. To ensure a wide dissemination of information through the local media radio, TV, village town crier, churches and community stakeholders.
  6. Write about the event and disseminate on several social media platforms including HKI’s Facebook page and Twitter handle.
Scope of Work
HKI Nigeria requires the services of a media/communication consultant to specifically perform the following tasks:
  1. To network and liaise with government agencies within Akwa Ibom State and arrange for the State government's high profile participation from either the Governor's, First Lady or the Deputy Governor's Office.
  2. To ensure a wide dissemination of information through the local media radio, TV, village town crier, churches and community stakeholders. 
  3. To organize drama & dance for radio, TV and street performance – to ensure adequate community mobilization and awareness about MDA campaign.
  4. To write and disseminate information about the MDA campaign through social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs, You Tube etc.
  5. To document events surrounding the upcoming MDA on film to share with donors and other related stakeholders.
Qualifications/Desired experience
  1. Must be familiar with the locality (Akwa Ibom state) of the program and speak the local language.
  2. Established networks and relationship with the Akwa Ibom State government
  3. Experience with creating content for social media and preferably developing material for development programs or other campaigns.




Job Title:   Communication Consultant

 
 Program objective
  • To document activities of HKI Nigeria Country office in support of the Nigerian government towards the elimination of 5 key NTDs in 4 states of the federation
  • To develop promotional material about NTD control/elimination activities of HKI Nigeria Country Office. control/elimination 
Expected outcome
  • Brochure production. The brochure should include: HKI NTDs activities in partnership with Sightsavers, Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust Project and DFID-UNITED Project (Advocacy, State NTDs Flag – Off Ceremonies, Mapping, Baseline Surveys, RAPLOA Survey, KAP Survey,  MDA, Training [NTDs Training, TT surgeon and Assistants Trainings], TT Surgeries conducted,
  • Success stories/testimonies from NTDs activities on handbooks, jotters and fliers
  • Cataloguing of NTD photos (this involves collecting, reviewing and placing them in electronic folders.
Scope of Work
  • The consultant is required to ensure that the expected outcomes are delivered with best quality
  • The Consultant is required to research NTD media coverage from January 2013 to date in 2015 in HKI supported states and include in the compilation of documents.
  • The consultant may have to visit HKI supported states to witness activities, especially during TT surgery and MDA
  • The Consultant is required to obtain activity reports, testimony from beneficiaries, results of various studies conducted to build the required HKI NTD profile.
  • The number of days for the actual consultancy should not exceed 21 days but can be spread across several months.

  • Sign contract by Consultant - September 1st 2015
  • Start work - Oct 2nd – Dec 31st  2015
