Job Summary
- We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Safety Manager to oversee and enhance safety practices across our marine operations.
- This role ensures full compliance with international maritime safety standards, mitigates operational risks, and fosters a strong safety culture within the organization.
- The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining marine safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and leading safety training programs for crew members and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to international and national maritime safety regulations, including IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and local port authorities’ requirements.
- Safety Policy Development: Develop, implement, and enforce marine safety policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance safety standards.
- Collaboration & Advisory: Work closely with vessel operators, port authorities, classification societies, and regulatory bodies to maintain best safety practices.
- Environmental Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with MARPOL and other environmental safety regulations related to pollution control and waste management.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, emerging maritime safety technologies, and regulatory changes to enhance safety measures.
- Ensure, in accordance with the corporate guidelines, the implementation, updating, review and auditing of the Company QHSSE, QMS and EMS Systems.
- Monitor the effective implementation of appropriate Safety and Environment System procedures and provide for their updating in line with changes in Legislation and Company Directives.
- Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses for marine operations, ensuring the identification and mitigation of potential safety hazards.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting: Lead investigations of marine accidents, near misses, and safety violations, preparing reports and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Training & Safety Drills: Organize and conduct regular safety drills, emergency response exercises, and crew training on safety protocols, firefighting, and lifesaving techniques.
- Audit & Inspection: Perform routine safety audits, vessel inspections, and compliance checks to ensure a safe working environment.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans, ensuring that all personnel are trained in emergency procedures.
- Provide for motivation and familiarization of all Company personnel respecting the importance of complying with Company system procedures and all Safety equipment provided.
- Participate in offshore safety meetings prior to operations, and installation/maintenance activities to ensure compliance to company policies.
- Perform Risk Assessment and inspections both onshore and offshore in line with company procedure.
- Prepare company documentation including HSSE and Quality for new tenders and contract bids
- Provide Safety support and advice, including supervision on preparation of plans and procedures for all departments.
- Ensure QHSSE reports are sent as per company procedures to the managing director and other relevant parties when necessary.
- Assist the Marine Logistics and Infrastructure department in their dealings with Clients in all issues concerned with Quality, Health, and Safety at work.
- Conduct safety, Quality audits both internal and external.
- Take part in accident / incident investigation.
- Carryout analysis of accident / incident statistics, identifying trends and suggesting improvement plans.
- Carryout any in-house safety, documentation, and Quality training.
- Carryout safety audits on Sub-contractors, external stakeholders, and internal parties.
- Liaise between Clients, vendors, and contractors on safety, Quality and Documentation related issues.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Occupational Safety, or a related field.
- Experience: 5–10 years of experience in marine safety, HSE, or a related role in the maritime or offshore industry.
- Certifications: Relevant maritime safety certifications such as ISM Lead Auditor, STCW, NEBOSH, IOSH, OPITO, or equivalent are preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of marine safety regulations, vessel operations, and emergency response protocols.
- Key Skills:
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent knowledge of risk assessment and incident investigation.
- Proficiency in safety management systems (SMS) and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong communication and training skills to educate teams on safety practices.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergency situations effectively.
Work Environment:
- On-site and offshore visits are required for vessel safety inspections, training, and compliance checks.
- May involve international travel for regulatory meetings or audits.
- Emergency availability may be required for incident management and response.
- This role is critical to ensuring the safety, compliance, and operational efficiency of Atlantic Fenders and Support Services’ maritime activities.
