Livelihood Officer at Restoration of Hope Initiative (ROHI)


Restoration of Hope Initiative (ROHI) - Since the insurgency began in 2009, many lives were lost and properties worth billions of Naira destroyed. There has been a lot of migration of people from one location to another location which is considered relatively peaceful, as a result many are displaced and homeless and many international organizations are bringing relief services in the areas of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Food Security and Livelihood (FSL), Education, Health and other sectors as listed out in the Humanitarian Response Plan. Some of the local Government Areas (LGA) are relatively peaceful and there is a high population density with men and women who are suffering from poverty, and children who are vulnerable to illiteracy.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Livelihood Officer

Location: Maiduguri, Borno (with frequent travels to the project site)
Type of Contract: Fixed-Term Contract
Duration: 6 months (possible extension)
Reports to: The Program Coordinator
Supervises: Livelihood Caseworkers

Summary of the Role

  • The livelihood officer is tasked with ensuring that the livelihood component of the project is implemented by ensuring that beneficiaries are able to startup businesses and sustain means of livelihood established as a result of the organization's support.
  • The livelihood officer is responsible for the daily technical planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring, and reporting of livelihood activities and for ensuring proper coordination with stakeholders. The position is roving among Bama, Dikwa, and Gomboru Ngala and requires fieldwork.

Responsibilities

  • Plan for the implementation of Education and livelihood project activities and monitoring in line with project design.
  • Conduct regular and periodic monitoring of businesses supported through the FBS.
  • Support beneficiaries in setting up and maintaining businesses supported through the FBS.
  • Supervises the livelihood caseworkers towards project deliverables.
  • Write and submit weekly activity reports.
  • Setting up alternative care arrangements by improving the livelihood capacity of vulnerable beneficiaries.
  • Collaborate with the Protection and Education officers to conduct well-being assessments for beneficiaries at different locations.   
  • Train beneficiaries on the Family Business Scheme (FBS) and disburse grants.
  • Any other responsibility as instructed by the line manager.

Job Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Business management or another related field
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Experience in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Team player, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well.

Languages:

  • Being fluent in English (speaking, reading, and writing) is strongly desired.
  • Fluency in Kanuri and Hausa preferred.

Ethical conduct for ROHI staff:

  • Restoration of Hope Initiative maintains a code of standards of conduct that shall govern the performances of its employees engaged in awarding and administering contracts. No employee, officer, or agent shall participate in the selection, award, or administration of a contract supported/ by donor funds if a real or apparent conflict of interest would be involved. Such a conflict would arise when the employee, officer, or agent, any member of his or her immediate family, his or her partner, or an organization that employs or is about to employ any of the parties indicated above, has a financial or other interest in the firm selected for an award. Disciplinary action will be applied for violations of such standards by ROHI officers, employees, or agents.

  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within ROHI and amongst beneficiaries served by ROHI

  • ROHI frowns at any form of child molestation and actively promotes child protection.
