Librarian at the Federal University Otuoke (FUO)


The Federal University Otuoke (FUO) is one of the Federal Universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in February 2011 in cognisance of the need to bridge the great divide between the educationally advantaged and disadvantaged sections of the country, especially areas where universities were lacking.  Cited in the serene and secure Otuoke Community, at the heart of the oil-rich Niger-Delta region of Bayelsa State, the University which is 21 kilometres south of the state capital Yenagoa, occupies an expanse of 200 hectares (494 acres).

Job Title: Librarian

Location: Otuoke, Bayelsa

Responsibilities 

  • The University Librarian is a Principal Officer and head of the university’s Library and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of the University Library, its branches, and extension and for providing services for the entire University Community.

Qualification and Experience
Candidates for this post must:

  • Possess a Ph.D. in Library Science.
  • Have evidence of scholarly publications related to Library/Information Science in reputable journals and books.
  • Be a member of the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) as well as the Nigerian Library Association (NLA).
  • Be not more than sixty (60) years on assumption of duty.
  • Be ICT competent.
  • Have a minimum of twelve (12) years cognate experience in University Library.
  • Have spent five (5) years as a Deputy Librarian or equivalent in the University System.

The Candidate:

  • The candidate must possess sufficient evidence of continued scholarship and contribution to knowledge through publication in reputable peer-reviewed outlets, management of technical skills, competence, and relevant administrative experience of the library.
  • Candidates are expected to be innovative with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of the vision, mission, and strategies of the Federal Government as it relates to the development and management of University Libraries, and must demonstrate the ability to initiate research and implement positive reforms in the University Library System.

Salary and Conditions of Service

  • The terms and conditions of service of the University Librarian shall be as obtainable in Federal Universities and as determined from time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
