The company was incorporated in 2005 and has since grown to become one of Nigeria’s biggest and most reliable mining and trading company. The head office is located in Abuja, with mining, operational and processing sites spread across 22 of the 36 states in Nigeria.

Kursi holds the titles for some of the most viable mineral assets in Nigeria, with combined mineral resources and reserve estimation of over 100 billion us dollars.   We mine, process and trade on base metals, precious stones and rare earth minerals. We supply to off-takers, manufacturers and end-users in the global value chain.  Our Gold mining and processing lines have the capacity for 8500 tons of ore per day, with optimal grade recovery rate. We also lead the Nigerian market in the mining and trading of Lithium, Lead, Zinc, Tin, Columbite, Tantalite, Monoxide, Manganese, Wolframite, Graphite and Fluorite.

Job Title: Legal / Compliance Officer

Job Description

  • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal/Compliance Officer to join our dynamic team in Abuja.
  • As a Legal/Compliance Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the company's legal and regulatory compliance while effectively managing contracts and legal affairs.

Responsibilities
Contract Management and Administration:

  • Develop, negotiate, and evaluate contracts on behalf of the Company.
  • Advise and enforce the company's rights and obligations in each project by communicating expectations to relevant departments.
  • Provide contract status reports to management for review.
  • Conduct evaluations and provide closeout reports for each project, identifying gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Assist other teams in preparing requests and responses for contractual interpretations and providing responses to requests for contract clarification, deviations, or changes.
  • Monitor key contract dates to ensure timely and correct application of all contract terms.
  • Manage legal, project, and contracting risks of the company, addressing any contractual or legal matters affecting project execution.
  • Liaise with other departments and third-party representatives regularly to address contract-related issues.

Compliance:

  • Ensure that business operations comply with all applicable laws, regulations, best practices, internal policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and ensure the company meets its compliance obligations under relevant laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop compliance checklists and prepare compliance reports as and when due.
  • Prepare compliance documentation for statutory, legal, and regulatory purposes.
  • Ensure all regulatory licenses, certificates, and permits are up to date.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory developments and industry initiatives, advising management accordingly.

Legal:

  • Negotiate, draft, and review all documents with legal implications for the company prior to execution and implementation with third parties.
  • Advise management and other departments on legal issues resulting from the company's operations.
  • Maintain legal and statutory records of the company.
  • Liaise with professional advisers and consultants such as auditors, external lawyers, tax advisers, bankers, and shareholders.
  • Manage litigation and case management activities.
  • Provide legal, regulatory, and compliance support to related entities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law.
  • At least 5 years of post-qualification experience, including 3 years of litigation experience.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Expertise in mining and labor law.
