Job Title: Junior Database Administrator

Location: Lagos

Job Objectives

  • A junior database administrator works with the database administrator to design database infrastructure and monitor and troubleshoot database systems for a company or enterprise.
  • In this career, your duties may include working to improve the performance and efficiency of data storage and access systems.
  • Your responsibilities also involve DB maintenance and the development of database security systems.

Job Duties/ Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • General Support
  • Establishing the needs of users and monitoring of user access and security
  • Maintaining the database definition layer
  • Assist with application fault diagnosis.
  • Loading data unto the system from flat files
  • Define users and enable data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner.
  • Minimise database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses.
  • Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards.
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity.
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required.
  • Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL, PLSQL, MSSQL.
  • Conduct periodical backup operations.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues with the Vantage Application
  • Perform daily system and database monitoring, verify the integrity of all server and Vantage Application resources, systems and key processes, review System and application logs.
  • Analyse data to improve overall efficiency and propose business opportunities from the analytics.
  • Minimise database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses.

Key Performance Indicators / Performance Goals

  • Availability of infrastructure (Infrastructure, Information systems, application)
  • Duration of database and application down time
  • Customer Satisfaction Level
  • Problem detection time
  • Backup integrity
  • No of successful backup restore operations done per quarter.
  • Development of efficient and short queries
  • No of SQL Performance tuning done per quarter
  • Average lead time to acknowledge and respond to help desk complaints ( ! support)
  • Average response time to resolve complaints logged.

Requirements

  • B.Sc/HND in Computer Science/ Management Information system / Computer Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Any one of these recognized professional certifications is required. Oracle Database Administration (OCA, OCP), Linux RHCSA, RHCSE, LINUX+ CompTIA, LPIC- 1: Linux Administrator.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in Systems / Database Administration Minimum 1 year experience in IT roles
