The company is currently engaged in the bulk storage and distribution of refined petroleum products (PMS, AGO and DPK) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas. The company through its state-of-the-art storage terminal in Port-Harcourt has positioned itself as a reputable player in the downstream oil and gas sector.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:



Job Title: Automation & Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Lagos

Purpose of the Role

  • To design, program, simulate and test automated machinery and processes.
  • Plans and coordinates Engineering implementation of project work on site.
  • To monitor, collect data and give report on terminal depot activities and ensure efficient and timely functioning of all fire & gas suppression systems, instruments and devices within our specifications.

Responsibilities
Operations and Equipment Monitoring:

  • Troubleshoot Fire Alarm System (FAS) related processes, instruments or equipment when errors occur and manage repairs to ensure minimal downtime to terminal operations.
  • Keep an updated maintenance report analysis of Fire and Gas Instruments and equipment.
  • Support to Design, Configure, Integrate and Implement safety instrument systems (SIS) solutions for terminal.
  • Develop User Requirement Specifications.
  • Assist with estimates of man-hours required to complete projects.
  • Manage automation and instrumentation projects as assigned
  • Monitor progress of projects.
  • Train operators on Fire Alarm and emergency shut-down systems.
  • Assist to Develop, Interpret and Review Fire and Gas Loop Diagram, for processes and equipment in terminal.
  • Carry out Installation of Fire and Gas Instruments, Functionality test/ ESD Logic test as per Cause and Effect matrix in terminal.

Operational Safety:

  • Monitor and resolve alarms, errors, safety interlocks for Fire Alarm instruments and automated machinery during and after operation for smooth loading and unloading processes.
  • Monitor process parameter conditions for improving the safety, reliability & operability of equipment and the terminal.
  • Monitor all safety instrument installations (gas/flame/smoke detectors, Emergency Short down devices etc.) in the terminal continuously for quality and prompt response during emergencies.
  • Initiate fire drill or test alarms via the safety panel for HSE team as need arises.
  • Analyze operational data and process behavior trends to optimize terminal control system.
  • Responsible for identification of plant, equipment, and process isolations within the bounds of the Work Permit System and in accordance with QHSE policies and procedures.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with Health and Safety Regulations and quality standards.
  • Identify, investigate, log faults and inform the concerned departments for remedial action.
  • Keep and monitor an accurate log of sequence of events alarm list used for optimization of terminal operations.
  • Carry out routine preventive and corrective maintenance of Fire and Gas Installations to ensure good working conditions.

Truck / Vessel Loading and Unloading Operations:

  • Operate and monitor Distributed Control System (DCS) interface for plants' start-up, loading and shut down operations.
  • Monitor the Fire Alarm System Interface to enable prompt identification of safety issues/unsafe conditions such as triggered Flame detector, Manual call point, Linear Heat Detector etc. through displays, graphics and trend logs during operation.
  • Communicate with field operators on unsafe triggers/ alarms in the field as required.
  • Implement measures to ensure seamless and safe receipt, storage, handling and dispatch of products in the terminal.

HSE:

  • Maintain Occupational health and safety standards in the office environment.
  • Participate in hazard reporting, toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Actively participates in and promotes company health and safety campaigns, policies and procedures, and ensures personal safety and that of colleagues at all times

Qualifications

  • Minimum of B.Sc. Second Class Honours (Upper Division) / HND Upper Credit in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Chemical Engineering or Automation / Instrumentation courses.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an operating engineering environment
  • Experience working with a variety of control systems including DDC, DCS and PLCs (Direct Digital Control, Distributed Control System, Programmable Logic Controller)
  • Experience designing and programming control systems with emphasis on PLCs, SCADA or HMI systems (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Human Machine Interface)
  • Experience with fire and gas alarm and shutdown systems as related to explosion proof areas.
