Job Title: Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Officer
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time

Purpose of Job

  • Ensuring the safe and effective operation of all areas and facilities in the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the safe and effective operation of all areas and facilities in the organization.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety regulations and ensure that every member of staff complies with the regulated standards.
  • Compile safety programs and standardize them to remain consistent, as well as share best practice techniques at regular staff meetings.
  • prevent accidents, respond to emergencies and evaluate the effectiveness of the company’s safety programs.
  • Managing company HSE Policy
  • Providing HSE method statements.
  • Ensuring that all work- related risks are identified and assessed.
  • Ensuring proactive measures are developed to mitigate project hazards.
  • Conducting HSE audits at each project site and ensuring identified actions are taken.
  • Developing HSE Plan for each project.
  • Pre-mobilizing company field project equipment and ensuring certification is valid.
  • Ensuring that all members of staff adhere to safety procedures.
  • Ensuring that Fire Extinguishers are certified as and when due.
  • Ensuring that all staff and subcontractors are briefed and trained on identified safety issues and retain records.
  • Publicizing annual safety management systems.
  • Ensuring corporate compliance with all HSE rules and regulations.
  • To conduct HSE audits and inspections to assess company compliance with HSE plan.
  • Overseeing provision of guidance on HSE principles to all staff.
  • Handling a broad range of tasks, including various first-aid procedures and safety checks on equipment.
  • Ensuring that the company holds manufacturers’ safety data sheets for all substances used.
  • Ensure that all work environments are HSE compliant.
  • Conducting monthly HSE meetings.
  • Documenting HSE risks.
  • Calculating and documenting company HSE statistics and reviewing them to ensure that company HSE targets are achieved.
  • Ensuring appropriate First Aid and PPE are provided as and when due.

Person Specification

  • University degree in a related field
  • Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to implement and supervise a HSE Management system.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ HSE experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
  • Valid safety courses.
  • Very sound written, communication and presentation skills.
